Job Description:
The College of Wooster is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of General Maintenance duties which include mechanical, carpentry, and construction in the maintenance and repair of college facilities, property, and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete maintenance service requests as assigned and in a timely manner.
  • Assist Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC Technicians, and other staff members with routine maintenance activities.
  • Inspect buildings, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair following up with a Web TMA service request.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of roofing systems, wood structures, windows, furniture, and other building components.
  • Builds concrete forms for sidewalks and steps and places & finishes concrete.
  • Assist with moving, loading, unloading and storing supplies, furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with carpentry and repair work including painting, drywall installation and finishing/repair, batt and blown insulation, installs and repairs ceramic tile, interior and exterior trim, builds and repairs stair treads, risers, and handrails.
  • Operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including saws, router, drills, sanders, planers, drill presses and various hand tools.
  • Perform a variety of door hardware and controlled access equipment support; install new, or repair existing locksets on doors, door closers, and panic hardware - requiring alteration to existing doors.
  • May provide nuisance wildlife control through legal and proper means of containment and removal from campus buildings and structures.
  • Participate in the on-call rotational process responding to campus needs for emergency calls outside of normal business hours including after hours, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Certificate from a technical school in a building trade or apprenticeship and three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Basic ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, manufacturer Operations and Maintenance manuals, or oral instruction on a variety of structures and equipment related to building renovations and new construction.
  • Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public.
  • Thorough knowledge of local building codes is required.
  • Must have valid Ohio driver's license.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision. Acknowledge and comply with all departmental standard operating procedures (SOP), safety, and college requirements.
  • Strong professional ethics and discretion with an attitude of respect for all employed at the college.
