Job Summary
The Overnight Caretaker is a live-in position with primary responsibilities for maintaining the health and safety of the residents at FPGL. The Overnight Caretaker may also assist with the daily needs of the residents, assisting program donors and volunteers, and ensuring/assisting with the shelter cleanliness standards. It is common for the caretaker to be a student or have additional employment during traditional hours. It is expected for the caretaker to be on-call and onsite in the evenings and overnight, but they can maintain a traditional lifestyle of sleeping at night and being away during the day for employment. Pets, weapons, alcohol, or any illegal drugs are not permitted in the shelter, including the apartment.
Must be at least 21 years old.

How You Make an Impact
The primary role is to be on site and on call in case there is a conflict or emergency. Daily routine tasks will be minimal such as ensuring all clients are in the building at time of curfew. Occasionally, the position may engage in the following tasks:
- Implement and operate FPGL program procedures including answer telephone lines; greet visitors and volunteers; and problem solve with shelter participants.
- Inspect facility; sign in participants; maintain and enforce shelter guidelines; document resident behavior and needs as well as program issues using logbook and incidents report; oversee proper chore implementation including cleaning up and maintenance of facility.
- Respond to participants' requests, rendering assistance as possible; respond to and resolve conflicts and crisis situations.
- Effectively communicate with executive director, case manager, shelter attendants, on critical incidents, observed resident behaviors, and activities around the shelter during scheduled shift.
- Maintain standardized operating procedures, safety of participants, program integrity, customer service standards, professional boundaries, and a supportive and caring environment.
- Assist with unit turnover including cleaning of guest rooms. Assist with daily cleaning needs of the shelter in the absence of residents completing chores.
- Communicate with staff and all participants in a non-judgmental manner; work cooperatively with all agency staff.
- Participate in agency trainings, staff meetings, case conferences, and supervision.
- Complete required agency trainings including CPR/first aid, non-violent crisis intervention, and other trainings as assigned. Some meetings and trainings will require attendance outside of regular schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
How You Meet the Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must possess at least 1 year of customer service and/or 6 months of social services experience.
- Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, substance abuse, and/or the chronically homeless population desired.
- Trained in crisis response/intervention and mental health first aid preferred.
- Experience working with individuals and families in crisis desired.
- Experience working in a shelter or residential setting desired.
- Strong written and oral communication skills required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills required.
- Proven ability to work effectively as an individual and part of a team.
- Willingness to be flexible with work schedule. Willingness to cover various shifts including evenings, weekends, and overnight.
- Willing to submit to and pass background clearances.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
