Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives, sorts, and distributes all mail, packages, United Parcel Service, Federal Express and Diplomatic Pouch.
- Processes outgoing mail, including Diplomatic Pouch, UPS, FedEx and State Department mail which includes a large volume of training documents and materials for overseas posts. Careful routing of these documents is especially essential.
- Safeguard all classified materials received via mail in accordance with the Department of State security regulations.
- Maintain postal supplies, maintain shipping documents and spreadsheets.
- Sort mail daily, X-Ray all incoming and outgoing packages that will fit in through the X-Ray machine.
- Advise customers of parcels to be picked up.
- Receive, prepare and send classified pouch as needed. Explain and enforced regulations.
- Apply specific guidelines available and included in the Foreign Affairs Manual, State Department regulations and FSI policies and procedures.
- Locate and select the most appropriate guidelines for application to specific situation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Candidate must demonstrate capability to manage mailroom operations in addition to the following:
- Must have mailroom (2-3 Years) experience
- Ability to work with computer systems, software, programs and use websites to perform duties
- Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Ability to be able to lift up to 50 Lbs without assistance
- Ability to fill out forms and address labels to include accountability reports
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship
- Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance
- High School Diploma
- Must have a minimum of 2-3 Years' experience performing mailroom operations
- Fluency in the English Language
- A high school diploma
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Effective oral and written communication skill
- The ability to follow technical direction as delivered by the CO, COR, ACOR, or GTM.
- The ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting
- Ability to exercise independent judgement when necessary
- Ability to perform physical labor in all categories
