The Receptionist answers questions from the public, transfers calls to appropriate departments, and processes adoption and veterinary clinic paperwork and payments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
*Assist the public by answering questions about the PAWS organization/programs and animal control laws, and/or refer callers and visitors to the appropriate department or outside agency.
*Enter, update and retrieve information from computerized data systems regarding animal status, incident locations and past records.
*Assist in adoptions by processing payments, finalizing paperwork and issuing tags.
*Process payments for animal care and prescriptions given by the veterinary clinic.
*Photograph and complete required documentation for incoming stray and owner-surrendered animals.
*Receive, organize and distribute donations, both monetary and goods.
*Prepare daily closing paperwork and deposit.
*Maintain and clean and sanitary office environment.
Qualifications
*High school diploma or equivalent
*Minimum of six months previous customer service experience in an office or retail business. Experience in an animal shelter, boarding facility or veterinary hospital preferred.
*Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and a good driving record.
Knowledge Requirements
*Computer literate in a Windows environment.
*Ability to utilize effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
*Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
*Excellent interpersonal skills.
*Ability to handle a multitude of diverse tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
*Ability to deal effectively in a tactful, firm and professional manner with hostile, irate, or emotionally distraught individuals.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment
There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors; and animal noises, dander, odors, urine and feces.
