Job Duties

Norfolk State University, a NCAA Division I institution, is seeking applicants for an Assistant Football Coach position. This candidate will assist the Head Football Coach in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a NCAA Division I football program.
Duties include but not limited to teaching student-athletes the fundamentals and mechanics of football; evaluating and recruiting potential student-athletes; organizing and conducting team practices; performing administrative and public relations duties; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be a position coach.
The successful candidate will travel for both recruiting and team travel. The work schedule requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evenings.
The physical requirements for work is medium demand, including lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent carrying/lifting objects.
The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Minimum of three years of coaching experience or combination of five years coaching and collegiate playing experience.
3. Demonstrated experience with recruiting.
4. Demonstrated experience with student-athlete development.
5. Proven record of adherence to NCAA academic and compliance regulations.
6. A successful criminal background check is required.

Additional Considerations

1. Minimum five years of defensive line experience at the FBS or FCS level.
2. Master’s degree.
