OVERVIEW:
The Social Services Food Pantry Helper is responsible with assisting the Food Pantry Coordinator for the overall condition and operation of the Social Services Food Pantry inside and out.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Organize, set up, maintain, and clean Food Pantry, Bread Room, storage containers inside and outside refrigerator and freezer units to ensure safety of these areas and equipment.
  • Record the temperatures inside the refrigerators and freezers located inside the Food Pantry and the outside refrigerator/freezer and keep a daily log. Notify supervisor immediately if refrigerator temperature is below 40 degrees and if freezer is above zero degrees.
  • Prepare and assist with the daily distribution of food box, toiletries and diapers as well as keeping stats for amounts distributed.
  • Responsible for the special handling, setting up, and distribution of food donations from vendors different from Food Bank (Peter's Bakery, Safeway, Trader Joe's, etc.).
  • Keep Food Pantry organized and stocked: loading/re-loading food and goods.
  • Rotate food for distribution according to expiration dates inside the Food Pantry, Bread Room, and outside food storage containers.
  • Keep inventory of stock in Food Pantry.
  • Keep area, inside and outside of Food distribution area clean and orderly, eliminating any safety hazards. Sanitize and wipe down all areas.
  • Bale all cardboard.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of truck.
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Valid California driver's license a plus
  • Forklift Certified preferred or must have the ability to get certified upon being hired

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Follow through on assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work with other staff members and volunteers a must
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills
  • Must be a team-player

EQUIPMENT USED:
  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
