  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    The UWM Financial Analyst works in conjunction with the HMC Accounting Manager and various HMC hospital operational areas, establishing and maintaining relationships between program managers and Accounting and providing assurances that grant expenditures are properly monitored, analyzed, and reported. The analyst also works to ensure that costs are reasonable and consistently treated per contract agreements, GAAP, GASB and regulatory requirements.
    The Analyst must have a strong customer service orientation, a focus on delivering accurate and actionable analytical tools, and a flexible approach to solving problems. The Analyst must be able to function well independently and must be able to diagnose and document accounting problems using reconciliations and data flow charts.
    Ideal candidates would have experience working with large organizations, and at a minimum have grant accounting experience. They should also understand internal controls and be able to ensure compliance with all controls and accounting policies.
    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with various departments to ensure grants & contracts costing allocations are analyzed & evaluated according to budget and contractual agreements
  • Monitor, analyze and maintain financial transactions for a wide variety of programs
  • Prepare monthly budget versus actual status reports for use by finance leaders, identify issues, concerns and problems and communicate to accounting manager
  • Track revenue and expenditures and prepare required internal and external financial reports.
  • Review contractor agreements and ensure the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented and communicated
  • Prepare invoices to funding agencies and reconcile grant revenues and expenses
  • Monitor sub-recipients. Perform sub-recipients’ site visits. Review budgets and reimbursement requests for appropriateness and ensure sub-recipients follow established administrative and financial policies, procedures, and business practices
  • Provide training and technical assistance to sub-recipients
  • Support program managers as necessary in delivering grant requirements
  • Maintain efficient electronic filing systems for financial records
  • Provide information to accounting and financial reporting as necessary to assist in month end, year-end close and audit activities
  • Under the direction of the HMC Accounting Manager, monitor grant and contract performance, providing analysis and reports useful to Accounting and program managers in developing solutions to improve results
  • Partner with various program managers as well as the HMC Grant & Contract Accounting Team, to analyze, evaluate and communicate financial performance on grants relative to both budget and contract levels
  • Prepare accurate, timely, complete, and well-labeled journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses for areas of responsibility
  • Assist HMC managers in developing reports to more effectively identify, evaluate, and communicate exception transactions to better assure timely and appropriate resolution
  • Build effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization with staff, peers, supervisors, and customers

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business or related field is required
  • Five or more years of accounting experience in a nonprofit or government setting, and grant experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and the ability to reconcile large transactional files
  • Advanced skill level in using General Ledger applications and Workday experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB
