We are seeking a regionally based Field Service Technical Engineer (FSTE) who will be responsible for supporting the resolution of in-depth product issues across all engine and chassis platforms within Navistar's portfolio. The FSTE's main focus will be to support customers and dealers remotely or in-person while working cross functionally with Service Engineering and other internal teams to diagnose the customer's concern and develop a robust service solution. The applicant must be self-motivated and able to work well both independently with minimal direction and in multi-functional team environments. He/she must be able to focus on multiple priorities at once in fast paced surroundings, and able to accurately communicate between all levels of engineering and the end use.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to dealers and customers, both remotely and in-person.
- Learn new products quickly and become an 'expert' across all product lines.
- Perform root cause analysis of issues detected in products released or under development.
- Create detailed reports of concerns for both customer level and engineering level review.
- Create, test, and validate pre-production solutions.
- Communicate technical concerns from engineering and service engineering to regional and district service managers, dealers, and customers.
- Research, document, and report field concerns to Service Engineering and Engineering teams.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- At least 8 years of Field Service engineering, automotive service or truck service experience
- At least 1 year of lead experience
OR
- Master's degree
- At least 6 years of Field Service engineering, automotive service or truck service experience
- At least 1 year of lead experience
OR
- At least 10 years of Field Service engineering, automotive service or truck service experience
- At least 1 year of lead experience
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. - Strong understanding of heavy-duty vehicle chassis systems
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, fuel systems, and aftertreatment systems
- Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems
- Familiar with CAN based datalinks and reading communication busses
- Ability to proficiently work from schematics, diagrams, verbal and written instructions
- Strong understanding of vehicle steering and suspension components and function
- Strong diagnostic software understanding (ability to master use of diagnostic software such as NEDS, Insite, ACOM, etc.)
- Excellent Communication Skills - both written and verbal
- Ability to create detailed reports of concerns for both customer level and engineering level review
- Moderate fabrication abilities
- Comfortable creating, testing, and validating pre-production solutions
- Commercial driver's license (CDL) or ability to obtain a CDL
