Position Overview
This is a temporary/part time, hourly position running from May to early September and located in Portland, Oregon. Energetic undergraduate students on summer break and aspiring scientists seeking research experience in the biological sciences are especially encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will assist with a research project investigating biological control of urban forest insect pests. They will be trained to identify and survey insect communities in trees and will be expected to collect data twice monthly over the summer using their personal vehicle.
Pay is $20 per hour.

Field teams use internet access to our multimedia reference materials, including detailed photos, videos, and databases to properly diagnose a customer's landscape or tree related issues.

Job Duties
Responsibilities:
- Assist with research project conducted by the Davey Institute. This will involve driving short distances around city of Portland, OR to facilitate experiment on city street trees.
- Work will/may require light lifting, use of hand lens, and days spent in outdoor environments.
- Assist with field data collection and computer data entry and analysis.
Availability
- Part time, 32 hours per month (8 hours per week on average)
- Ideal availability is mid-May to early September 2024
- Majority of work will be conducted every other week over a two-day duration
Qualifications
- High School diploma; college coursework in biology or related discipline preferred; research experience preferred
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Attention to detail
- Computer literate and able to enter data and manage excel spreadsheets
- Ability and willingness to travel locally with personal vehicle
- Ability to read and speak clearly and lift up to 50 lbs
