POSITION SUMMARYThe Residence Life Coordinator for Civic Education (RLCCE) position at Grinnell College is part of a two-year career development track. The RLCCE is a student-centered, collaborative, and intentional educator who supervises student staff and manages a residential learning community of approximately 100 – 200 students. The Residence Life Coordinator for Civic Education is first and foremost – a residential educator, responsible for creating and sustaining a community of learners that reside in a self-governing environment. The RLC for Civic Education will liaise with the associate director of Civic Education and innovation to advertise community engagement opportunities, encourage students to participate in the community, and communicate moments of success and challenge.
The RLC will collaborate with their supervisors and community advisors to facilitate residential curriculum activities so students may reflect upon their community engagement experience. The RLC will collaborate with and participate in the civic learning and innovation to facilitate and support residents’ community engagement.
This is a 12-month position with a salary of $48,000 per year.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in student affairs or higher education
  • At least one year of housing or Residence Life experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills are important
  • The ability to work independently, as a member of the student affairs team, and with a highly selective student population within a rigorous academic setting; program development; outcomes assessment
  • Working effectively in a diverse environment
  • Responding to crises and emergencies; handling and protecting sensitive and confidential information and records
  • Knowledge of and experience with selective, residential liberal arts campuses
  • Understanding of and appreciation for college student development issues, and the student affairs field in general
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, hotel management, or another area relevant to student affairs
  • Knowledge of and passion for Civic Education and community engagement
  • Live-in experience at a small, residential college or university
  • Knowledge of and experience working with students in transition
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the Grinnell College tradition of student self-governance
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of residential curriculums is a plus
