The Boiler Plant Operator III position ensures that the boiler and chiller systems operate effectively within their design capacities and/or capabilities by primarily assessing the condition of plant equipment, identifying and preparing a scope for the maintenance and repairs to equipment as needed, working with the Procurement Manager to secure parts and materials and then completing the necessary corrective and preventative maintenance work on the plant equipment.

 

The Boiler Plant Operator III will also assist with operating the airport's Domestic and International Utility Plants by monitoring control panels and panel boards and adjusting controls, valves, and pumps manually or by remote control to regulate flow, pressure levels and distribution. This work would also involve operating and controlling electric motors, pumps, engines, generators, and valves in the plant to regulate the HVAC system. Collecting samples and performing routine laboratory tests to ensure proper chemical levels may also be required. The AAT Project operates 3 shifts daily on a 24/7/365 schedule. Other work scheduling requirements may also apply during extreme weather events. The Boiler Plant Operator reports to the Plant Manager. The Boiler Plant Operator III may also serve in an acting capacity and make complex operational and maintenance decisions in the absence of the Plant Manager.  In the absence of the Plant Manager and as needed, the Boiler Plant Operator III will work directly with the client, the Department of Aviation and their customers as needed and as directed by the Plant Manager, Technical Services Manager and/or Program Manager.

 

 

 

 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

1.      Performs a variety of complex tasks in the operation and calibration of equipment, instruments, processes and support systems for the Domestic and International Central Utility Plants at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

2.      Demonstrates superior skills at monitoring systems, controls and equipment by directing adjustments made to controls, valves, pumps and other equipment manually or through BMS controls to regulate operations of the Domestic and International Central Utility Plants.

3.      Ensures operational records of any observed variations in operating conditions and records are maintained and system performance readings are interpreted correctly and as needed.

4.      Able to assess condition of plant and other equipment, identify and prepare a scope for the maintenance and repairs needed, work with Facility Coordinator/Buyer to secure parts and materials and then complete more technically complex corrective and preventive maintenance work on the equipment.

5.      Demonstrates superior skills at utilizing data management tools for system and process controls, such as computer spreadsheets or other data management programs; and

6.      Oversees the completion of assigned work orders for the reactive, corrective, and preventative maintenance, as well as the repairs, to utility plant equipment (boilers, chillers, pumps, valves, compressors, etc.).

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

1.      Able to work independently, as well as on teams to oversee the management of utility plant operations competently and safely.

2.      Able to direct the completion of assigned maintenance and repair projects that ensure the safe and efficient operations of the Domestic and International Central Utility Plants.

3.      Able to demonstrate superior computer skills using the Microsoft Office suite programs, as well as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS);

4.      Able to demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills.

5.      Able to follow all AAT Project safety requirements to support Beyond Zero safety goals that promote continuous improvements in safety culture at our project.

6.      Able to ensure that lifts and ladders used in the performance of assignments, which may also be completed in a variety of weather conditions, follow lift and ladder use procedures and safety protocols; and

7.      Able to work a compressed or extended schedule, which may apply during extreme weather event operations
8. Georgia Association of Power Engineers - 4th Class and 24 months

 

Basic Qualifications

 

         Minimum three (5) years' experience with industrial or central utility plant operations and maintenance techniques and related equipment required

         Georgia State Association of Power Engineers License Required

         Ability to monitor Metasys BMS

         Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics according to diagrams

         Ability to read specialized precision tools such as meter, gauges, chemical-mixing, and dye-injecting equipment, etc.

         High School degree or GED

         Valid Georgia Driver's License with no major infractions

 

Preferred Qualifications

         Minimum three (7) years' experience with industrial or central utility plant operations and maintenance techniques and related equipment

         Military or maritime training program in the operation and maintenance of centrifugal, rotary, and screw-type pumps

         Associate or bachelor's degree

         Department refrigeration machines operator's license

         Graduation from an accredited trade school, apprentice training program or equivalent

         Basic electrical course

         Valid Georgia Driver's License with no major infractions

 

 

 

 

Working Conditions

Working conditions in the work area can include indoor environments, as well as outdoor environments, which could cause exposure to changing weather conditions; proper environmental attire will be required.  Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and various chemicals.  The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.  Work assignments may require working a compressed or extended schedule, which may apply during extreme weather event operations.

 

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements to perform work will include ability to sit, stand, stoop, twist, and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to maintain equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction.  In an 8-hour shift, must be able to walk long distances throughout the facility, lift objects up to 40 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; work in prone position under vehicles or equipment; wear and use appropriate safety equipment; work alternate shifts to meet client needs.

Physical requirements may include and require the use of ladders and aerial lifts in the performance of work assignments, which may also be completed in a variety of weather conditions.  Ladder and aerial lift usage must follow standard safety practices and protocols.  Only trained and certified operators may use an aerial lift.
