Perform a variety of clerical duties related to greeting, registering and scheduling patients for various radiology procedures. This position is responsible for taking insurance information and proper scheduling of patients for procedures following established protocols and guidelines. Duties also include:
- Utilizing our Radiology Information System to schedule/make appointments for a timely completion of the clinical study requested
- Confirm, cancel or reschedule patient appointments as needed
- Checking order forms/prescriptions for instructions and signature
- Obtaining and entering the necessary ordering physician, demographic, insurance, and clinical information
- Obtaining previous studies for comparison
- Processing paperwork
- Heavy phone usage
- Obtaining insurance verifications/pre-authorizations and any other pertinent information to protect our financial reimbursement
- Faxing patient reports to their physician's offices
- Routing calls to correct areas
- Relaying messages to physicians, technologists and staff
- Burning CDs and printing films
- Film/CD pick-up and delivery
- Escorting patients to gowning areas
- Performing other related functions as assigned
- Maintaining confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information
Physical Demands:
- Requires prolonged periods of sitting
- Requires eye-hand coordination, visual acuity, manual dexterity, and a full range of body motion
- Medium weight lifting ability (20-50 lbs.)
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Ability to read and write in English, with good verbal and written communication skills. Conversant in Spanish a plus!
- Minimum one year's previous experience with patient registration and scheduling, preferably in radiology
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Able to perform multiple tasks, work independently, and prioritize and coordinate activities
- Basic typing skills
- Able to operate basic office equipment such as photocopiers, telephones and printers, including experience with Windows-based computer systems
- Strong interpersonal/customer service skills
- Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
- Ability to function and react calmly in a sometimes stressful environment and interact in a professional manner with all patients, co-workers, physicians and management
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers, physicians and interacting departments
- Possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
HOURS: Staggered shifts, Monday through Friday 6:30am to 6:00pm, Saturday 7:00am to Noon. Occasional overtime required.
