Description of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance (“Alliance”):
- The mission of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance is to reduce the impact of cancer on
all South Carolinians.
- The South Carolina Cancer Plan is developed by the Alliance every five years and
implemented by volunteer members focusing on multiple priority areas.
Board of Directors and Board Development:
- Lead the recruitment and management efforts of a highly functioning Board of Directors.
- Foster collaboration and effective communication among board members to ensure
alignment with the organization's mission and goals.
Financial Management:
- Manage a budget exceeding $500,000 +, comprising federal and state contracts, grants,
and unrestricted revenue.
- Ensure compliance with funding conditions for all grants and contracts.
- Implement effective financial controls and reporting mechanisms.
Strategic Planning:
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the 2022-2027 South Carolina
State Cancer Plan and the 2022-2027 Alliance Strategic Plan.
Revenue Diversification:
- Successfully diversify annual revenue streams from several sources, including securing
funding from the SC General Assembly.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for sustainable funding to support the organization's
mission and growth.
Public Policy:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key legislators to advocate for cancer-related
issues and prioritize cancer in legislative agendas.
- Stay informed about relevant policy changes and trends to shape the organization's
advocacy efforts.
Volunteer Management:
- Oversee a constituent base of over 800 individuals, coordinating efforts with 250
engaged volunteers, including board members, community representatives, and
workgroup members.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance volunteer engagement and contribution.
Organizational Management:
- Manage all aspects of organizational governance in alignment with Together SC
standards and the South Carolina Secretary of State’s office.
- Ensure all grants and funding sources comply with funding stipulations. Ensure all
funding conditions are met or exceeded.
Marketing and Outreach:
- Launch comprehensive marketing campaigns using newsletters, social media channels,
and websites to showcase the organization's impact in the fight against cancer.
- Effectively communicate the organization's mission and activities to various
stakeholders.
Community Engagement:
- Increase community involvement by collaborating with non-traditional partners such as
library systems, faith-based organizations, fraternities/sororities, and housing authorities.
- Develop grassroots initiatives in rural areas of the state to address specific community
needs.
Qualifications:
- Proven leadership experience in a nonprofit or public health setting.
- Minimum of 8 years of administrative leadership experience in a non-profit setting.
- Experience in working with diverse populations.
- Strong fiscal management and budgetary skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Must have integrity and trustworthiness while possessing a high degree of tact, discretion, and
professionalism. Verbal and written communication skills will be used daily. Must be able to use
standard office equipment such as multiple-line telephone, personal computer, fax machine,
photocopier, and other standard office equipment. Ability to occasionally lift and transport event
supplies/equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Must have a valid Driver’s license and own an
insured vehicle.
