Equipment Operator position, must have Class 'B' license. Position duties vary by department and are detailed below. For the Solid Waste Department/Collections, the candidate in this position will operate either a side-loading automated truck along a predetermined route to collect residential refuse.
Job specific duties include: Takes waste to landfill or transfer station and deposits materials as directed by site supervisors. Flags traffic as needed. Collects refuse at the back of houses for mobility impaired and paid-for customers.
For the Public Works Departments (streets, golf course, parks, cemetery) the candidate in this position will operate dump trucks, street sweepers, bucket trucks, backhoes, trackloaders, tractors a side arm mower, bush hog, weed eaters, mowers, and hand tools (i.e., shovels) in the construction, repair, and maintenance of either city properties or city water systems. Pouring and finishing concrete is an additional duty. In all matters, assignments may be planned or on an emergency basis.
In all departments the candidate in this position is also required to do the following: Enforces safety rules and regulations. Operates a two-way radio. If applicable, fuels equipment daily.
Trains new operators or drivers. Performs pre-trip and daily inspections to assigned equipment or vehicle; checks brakes, lights, belts, hoses, fluid levels, air pressure, etc., reports equipment or vehicle service, maintenance, or repair needs to immediate supervisor. Records inspections and routine service log.
Maintains responsibility for assigned equipment or vehicle; cleans and washes assigned equipment and vehicles. Provides information and assistance to customers, if applicable. Completes and maintains any required logs and reports.
Flagging traffic as needed to ensure a safe work environment.
