Anti-Money Laundering (AML) is a key risk function within Capital One’s Compliance & Ethics (C&E). The AML team serves as a second line of defense and operates certain first line of defense controls for Capital One’s Lines of Business. In this role, you will work within Capital One’s AML Program Risk Office (AMLPRO), and with partners across all of Capital One’s lines of businesses, leading risk assessments and control challenges for AML and Sanctions.
This leader will also be responsible for a team of risk managers, and be a thought leader working across the enterprise to develop and implement cutting edge solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued stability and success. Directors in Capital One’s AML organization partner with many different stakeholders to drive change in order to effectively manage risk in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded. Our Directors are highly motivated risk management professionals with excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and functions, and the opportunity to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.
Core Responsibilities include:
Lead the execution of the enterprise Money Laundering and Sanctions risk assessment.
Partner with key stakeholders across AML to establish an emerging risk forum, helping Capital One navigate the ever-changing risk landscape for financial crime compliance.
Lead second-line compliance control reviews, providing assurance that Capital One’s AML controls are designed and operating effectively to mitigate financial crime Risk and are in compliance with our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) standards
Oversee AML’s Process framework, ensuring our program’s process documentation and framework is kept up-to-date and aligned with C&E’s Process Excellence framework
Monitor, through closure, issues and recommendations stemming from the various assessments performed under the Risk and Controls organization
Interface with regulators and audit partners, representing the AML Risk & Controls functions
Develop Subject Matter Expertise in ERM’s framework, and provide advisory services to the AML Program in navigating this framework.
Maintain and update AML’s guidance for first-line assessments and product, service, industry, and transaction risk ratings
Partner with oversight groups to advance risk assessments and compliance testing.
Engage in new projects and/or ad-hoc leadership activities, as requested by senior leadership
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or military experience
At least 7 years of experience in AML or Compliance
At least 2 years experience in Operations Management
At least 3 years experience in People Management
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience as a Project and/or Process Manager within the financial services industry
At least 10 years of overall experience as Project and/or Process Manager
Business Process Management certification (internal Capital One certification) Six Sigma Lean, Green Belt or Black Belt certification, Agile Coach certification, Compliance Certification (CRCM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $202,400 - $231,000 for Director, Risk ManagementCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
