POSITION SUMMARY: The Environmental Services Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and managing solid waste related activities. The ESC will also be responsible for assisting with environmental assessments, illegal dump sites, GPS and reporting sites to IHS, scheduling clients, and assisting with recycling. The ESC will also be responsible for overseeing collecting, sorting and maintaining recyclable items that are housed at the Environmental Office. This position will also require the operation and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment and trucks used in day to clay operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with investigations for illegal dumpsites on Comanche Nation Property or Tribal member property.
- Knowledge of operating excavator, backhoe, hooking and unhooking trailers, using balers, skid steer, motorized vehicles, compressors, power tools, etc.
- Intake applications for the Solid Waste Program and maintain client applications physical and online.
- Schedule weekly dump trailer/roll-off pick up and drop off for clients.
- Responsible for sorting, collecting, and maintaining recyclable items.
- Maintaining heavy equipment for the solid waste division. (Trailers, balers, etc.)
- Assist with planning solid waste events as well as outreach and education pertaining to the program.
- Coordinate with recycling program for Electronic Waste disposal, tire collection, hazardous waste collection, and any other assistance that can be provided using heavy operating equipment.
- Work in the landfill on a weekly basis.
- Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times when dealing with angry/hostile clients
- Assisting in all projects and events sponsored by the department.
- Responsible for monthly overview report to Env. Services Manager.
- Participate in interoffice cross training.
- Must be willing to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Assist the director with grant reporting in regards to Solid Waste and Recycling.
- Other duties as assigned
REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Coordinator will report to the Environmental Services Manager as well as the Environmental Director. This position will also have supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- May require standing, squatting, lifting, walking for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in landfill by unloading and offloading trailers.
- Must be able to hike for a minimum of ¼ mile in all terrains.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Majority of work day will be spent outdoors in all climate conditions. Personal protective equipment must be work to include but not be limited to: jeans, steel to boots, work t-shirts, work gloves, etc. Field work climate will be completed in a variety of weather and climate conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Education Requirement: High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, natural, physical, or environmental sciences or closely related field: or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Heavy Operators Equipment experience at least 3-5 years
- Must be willing and able to travel in and out of state.
- Must possess a valid state of Oklahoma Driver's License.
- Must be an insurable driver under the Comanche Nation driving policy.
- Must be willing to submit and pass a background investigation and drug testing.
