General Description:

The International Student Services Coordinator provides all levels of support to International Students from inquiries, application processing, pre-arrival and orientation, immigration advising, insurance and health, and academic advising for student success.
The Coordinator serves as one of OCCC’s Designated School Officials (DSO) for the F-1 nonimmigrant student program. This position is responsible for administering SEVIS activity and staying in compliance with the Department of Homeland Security regulations.
The Coordinator also provides comprehensive student success advising services to International Students; and assist them in academic planning, choosing a major, resolving academic difficulty, addressing personal challenges, and providing information about the College’s available support services & resources

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of four years of full-time employment in International Student Services, recruitment and admissions, or academic advising.
Must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident as required by federal regulations to be a Designated School Official (DSO).

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to give attention to details, set priorities, coordinate and complete a number of competing assignments within established deadlines.
Ability to work independently and achieve optimal results with minimal oversight. Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work well one-on-one with individuals.
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office.
Critical thinking skills for problem-solving.
Knowledge and understanding of the needs of diverse populations.
Technical expertise with computer applications and automated systems.
Ability to work flexible hours.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the office and campus to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, staff, faculty, students, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment, and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.3. 3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor , office setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree
Experience with the SEVIS system and as a DSO
Work experience at a community college
Experience and knowledge in International Student and Scholar Management, and Colleague

Required Training:

Annual Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training FERPA Training
Sexual Harassment Training
Quarterly Health & Safety Training
Position specific training as needed

Work Hours:

8 a.m. – 5 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday
Evening and weekend hours required as needed.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) by complying with the US Citizen and Immigration Services regulations and processing immigration documentation for International Students.
Assist students, faculty and staff in person, over the phone, and by email with inquiries and matters related Immigration and International Admissions.
Provide guidance to International Students about maintaining F-1 student status.
Maintain student information on OCCC database systems, ISSM and the SEVIS database.
Advise and assist International Students on the process of SEVIS transferring, F-1 reinstatement, change of status, Optional Practical Training (OPT), Curricular Practical Training (CPT) with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Respond to and communicate with prospective International Students through email, phone or in person regarding international application requirements and procedures.
Utilize recruitment/admissions database to send communications to prospective students and to enter/update applications.
Improve and develop ways to increase the effectiveness of each step from inquiry to application, application to admit, and admit to enrolled student.
Evaluate applications for admissibility and process the application to ship the acceptance package.
Attend college fairs, high school events and business/community events as needed.
Participate in professional development programs and serve as needed on institutional committees.
Provide effective student academic advising and degree planning that promotes retention and degree completion.
Help International Students facilitate a successful transition to OCCC and adjust to American society.
Introduce college academic resources to International Students that can help them overcome personal challenges.
Work collaboratively with all areas of the campus to increase opportunities for student achievement and to help students remove barriers they may encounter along their path to graduation.
Identify student-specific barriers to graduation, strategize how to help a student overcome these barriers and create measurable student-specific activities to support successful completion of their program leading to graduation.
Perform other tasks as assigned.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
This position has been identified as having significant responsibility for student and campus activities. The individual holding this position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
