Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to gather, analyze, and prepare reports on data collected.
- Knowledge of threatened and endangered species in New Jersey.
- The candidate may be required to file and scan for database management.
- The candidate will also use GIS to map project locations for staff to use during review.
- Ability to perform desktop-based habitat assessments to determine suitable habitats for threatened and endangered species.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply State Laws and Regulations to protect State and Federally listed threatened and endangered species.
- The employee will become familiar with threatened and endangered species habitat protection clauses within DEP’s Laws and Regulations.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- The primary responsibilities will include entering application information into the Threatened and Endangered Species Unit's database and conducting initial reviews of the Unit’s application transmittal form to categorize and assign reviews to the appropriate Unit staff member.
- Secondary responsibilities will include working with DEP’s NJ Natural Heritage Program and Endangered and Nongame Species Program to document information on rare flora, fauna, and ecological communities within regulated zones and statewide.
Requirements
- Citizen Status: Open
- Ability to use GIS.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in biology, conservation biology, plant or animal ecology, wildlife management, botany, or related field.
- Experience and/or course work in threatened and endangered species protection, conservation biology, plant or animal ecology, wildlife management, plant science, animal and plant biology, taxonomy, natural resources, plant physiology, and field botany.
