Job description

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Support Safety Data Sheet (SDS) administrative activities for a broad range of products and ingredients including raw materials and finished flavors, colors and additives to support our internal and external customers.
  2. Monitor, understand and implement Global SDS requirements, focusing on GHS for US OSHA, EU CLP and Singapore WSHA.
  3. Implement software upgrades for management and production of compliant SDS.
  4. Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, EHS, Product Development, Production, Quality and Regulatory colleagues to ensure the required documentation for creating safety data sheets is accurate and complete.
  5. Create, Maintain and Update SDS base hazard data to ensure that raw material information is valid. Review new ingredients for hazards and introduced appropriately into the SDS system, including Chemical management and Safety Data sheet document management system maintenance.
  6. Represent Kalsec with industry groups to ensure that we are following best practices for SDS creation and hazard identification. Participate in industry groups to influence Kalsec interests.
  7. Monitor global SDS regulations and update system to ensure compliance.
  8. Respond to customer inquiries.
  9. Verifies compliance with Health and Safety regulations and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines.
  10. Manages the participation in Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Responds to findings (written reports) are sent to corporate for review prior to sending.
  11. Provides leadership and coaching related to Health and Safety matters to supervisors, leaders, and managers. Acts as safety & health advisor to Kalsec teams regarding projects, tasks, and operations.
  12. Assertively manage post-incident matters including incident investigations and post incident action items.
  13. Conduct various types of periodic inspections and audits of the facility, departments, and specific equipment/positions to identify unsafe hazards and/or conditions or potential site security concerns.
  14. Facilitate and attend monthly union/management Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, providing guidance and expertise on safety and health matters. Ensure that all action items resulting from meetings are followed up on through to completion.
  15. Develop and facilitate safety training programs to assure regulatory compliance and business safety objectives are met.
  16. Remains informed on new legislation and regulations and ensures compliance as required.
  17. Develop and maintain safety programs to ensure local, regional, and national objectives are met, including implementation of planned facility and equipment inspections.
  18. Coordinate job hazard assessments and recommend measures to control exposures, including substitution of less hazardous materials, use of PPE (personal protective equipment), work practice changes and engineering controls.
  19. Serve on and coordinate the facility's Site Emergency Team and maintain an updated Emergency Action Plan.

Education/Experience:
Required:
  • BA or BS degree in chemistry or related science fields.
  • Working knowledge in applying GHS, OSHA, DOT, WHMIS, REACH, ECHA.
  • Experience in environmental compliance and Safety regulations
  • Knowledge of hazard communication and SDS authoring regulations (UN GHS, EU

CLP, etc.)
  • Experience with SDS authoring platform: SAP EHS, 3E Generate, WERCS, etc.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Desired
  • Experience with systems data management
  • Working knowledge of transportation regulations
  • Prior experience with flavor, food, pharma and/or allied industry documentation

Equipment Operation:
  • Ability to work at computer with related information/knowledge-based software. Typing/keyboarding is essential.
  • Ability to work with other office equipment, such as copiers and scanners.
  • Ability to access all areas of manufacturing facilities.

Physical Requirements:
  • Computer related: eye strain and long-term keyboarding.
  • Job will involve sitting at a computer workstation for long stretches but may also have days where standing and walking between buildings is required.

Travel:
  • Minimal 30% or as needed including domestic and international travel.
