The EHS Co-Op/ Intern supports the EHS activities for multiple Manufacturing Facilities located in the Duncan, SC area. This position will assist with compliance of AFL and regulatory requirements. The incumbent evaluates and recommends solutions to EHS related problems. We are currently seeking EHS Interns or Co/Ops for Summer 2024.
The Summer 2024 rotation will be onsite in Duncan, SC. The rotation will be from May 2024 to August 2024.
Responsibilities
- Support the Environmental Health and Safety team at multiple facilities.
- Improve policies, procedures, programs, and tools to maintain a safe and healthy work environment
- Conducts investigations into associates' hazard reporting, suggestions and complaints
- Improve procedures and training for compliance with relevant OSHA Standards and company EHS policies
- Support AFL safety and environmental initiatives
- Works with plant operations teams to evaluate, develop, and update Safe Work Instructions/Job Safety Analyses
- Engages site leadership and production associates to ensure effective implementation of key EHS programs and improve organizational culture
- Leverages and analyzes EHS data to identify opportunities for improvement and establish sustainable corrective action plans
- Monitor compliance with applicable environmental programs and permits (i.e. industrial wastewater, stormwater, air emissions, hazardous waste, etc.)
- Assists with the execution of the ergonomic program through proactive identification of high-risk activities, completion of ergonomic assessments, and implementation of corrective action plans

Qualifications
- Course work towards a bachelor's degree in an EHS-related field
- Applied work experience, project experience or volunteer experience with Environmental Health and Safety programs
- Knowledgeable in Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Requires general personal computer skills as well as the ability to use Microsoft Operating System and specialized EHS systems
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), must be an effective listener
