Job Highlights

The role of the Head of HSSE is to coordinate activities within the Environmental, Health & Safety, and Security functions in support of Charleston Operations.  This role provides leadership and guidance in these functions to the site leadership team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop strategic goals and targets to maintain high level of Health and safety performance.
  • Ensure environmental compliance including site air, water and waste permitting.
  • Ensure site security is coordinated at a high level in compliance with Homeland Security CFATS requirements to protect the community from terroristic activities.  
  • Ensure incidents are properly reported externally, internally and that the investigation protocols are followed. 
  • Implement and monitor necessary training and safety programs for all site employees. Track and report HSSE KPI's and identify opportunities to improve metrics. 
  • Serve as HSSE incident management expert for the Charleston site, providing guidance and training for the management and investigation of incidents, especially those having a high potential for injury or damage. 
  • Work with authorities and LANXESS internal and external consultants on all site related permit issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, or related field.
  • Min. of 5 years of professional HSSE experience. Experience in chemical manufacturing or similar industry is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse culture and affect culture change. 
  • Provide guidance, direction and professional development for HSSE team members. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
