Overview:
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Principal FieldSafety & Health Specialistto be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Principal FieldSafety & Health Specialistmonitors, analyzes, and investigates workplace activities and potential hazards to support company initiatives within assigned area or facility(s) through review of work packages, assessments, walk downs, inspections, and/or observations. Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Responsible for identifying and mitigating hazardous conditions that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, local and organization occupational safety and health standards, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Responsibilities:
A Principal Field Safety & Health Specialist:
    • Assumes technical responsibility for one or more related phases of the Safety and Health (S&H) Program within assigned area.
    • Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks.
    • Assists design teams to identify safety and health specifications and design requirements of low to moderate risk work packages.
    • Educates, observes, and ensures all personnel are performing work in compliance within assigned area.
    • Performs conventional practices of S&H by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational hazards in the workplace through job scope reviews, walk downs, and general observations.
    • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in assigned area.
    • Responsible for compiling and providing documentation from investigation.
    • Conducts facility and self-assessments as assigned.
    • Supports emergency response drills and regularly attends Local Safety Improvement Team (LSIT) meetings to provide guidance and support.
    • Demonstrates considerable knowledge and understating of company and industry specific regulatory requirements/standards.
    • Assists more senior personnel in the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
    • Researches innovative techniques, materials, equipment to implement into company, ensuring the quality of programs.
    • Supports the preparation and review of written programs, job hazard analyses, personal protective equipment assessments and other health and safety program elements as requested.
    • Promotes compliance with required Experience Modification Rate (EMR), Total Recordable Case (TRC) and Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) established goals.
    • Serves as a company Subject Matter Expert of a specific S&H program.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Utilizes comprehensive experience to develop, implement and maintain safety and health programs, systems and procedures as assigned.
    • Generates and reviews trending reports for performance indicators as requested using various sources, such as Site Tracking, Analysis & Reporting (STAR) application.
    • Assigns, tracks, and sends reminders to complete facility S&H required reading assignments as assigned.
    • Incorporates innovation through extensive experience to develop, implement and maintain safety and health programs, systems and procedures of assigned facility.
    • Develops, designs, and conducts comprehensive occupational hazard inspection and monitoring strategies within a specialized field. Develop and conduct employee training as assigned.
    • Prepares and reviews written programs, job hazard analyses, personal protective equipment assessments and other health and safety program elements. Helps develop and/or reviews health and safety procedures as requested. In addition, may be requested to develop and conduct employee training and perform effectiveness reviews.
    • Promotes compliance with required Experience Modification Rate (EMR), Total Recordable Case (TRC) and Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) established goals. Serves as an expert resource for line management to develop and administer a proactive prevention program for accidents and illness per company requirements.
    • Generates/gathers trending and other performance indicator reports. Presents to Project Directors and company Senior Management. May be asked to compile similar reports for customers and internal stakeholders as requested.
    • Reviews, enters, reports, and/or resolves Site Tracking, Analysis & Reporting (STAR) items regarding Safety and Health and ensures effective controls have been put in place.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of industry’s innovative developments, processes, and techniques through successful implementation.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED or Associates degree and related experience
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or related science and related experience
Additional information:
  • Must have a flexible schedule to work on-call as delegated by schedule.
  • Internal candidates with experience as a FLM, Radiological Control may also qualify.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications for a Principal Field Safety & Health Specialist:
  • Previous experience with advanced S&H theories, concepts and methods; advanced knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Prior experience with compiling, preparing and presenting S&H material to multiple management levels.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRMC is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor.
