Job Title: English Learner (EL) Teacher - .5 FTE
Reports To: World Language Division Head
FLSA Status: Not exempt
Qualifications and Certifications:
- Possess an Illinois (PEL) Professional Educator License with High School Bilingual/ESL Endorsements or Educator License with Stipulations (Spanish), committed to enrolling in courses leading to a full bilingual/ESL endorsement upon hiring.
- Language Arts Endorsement required; High school English and/or Social Studies endorsement required for a PEL Holder.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
- Prior training in ESL methods/techniques is preferred.
- Previous teaching experience with bilingual/ESL students is preferred.
- High school teaching experience preferred.
- Experience in multilingual classrooms preferred.
Summary:
The EL Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the linguistic, academic, and cultural development of English Learner (EL) students and their families. This position involves implementing specialized services, fostering excellence in differentiated instruction for ELs, and aligning with policy and advocacy initiatives to ensure compliance with State and Federal mandates. This position requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about the success of EL students, committed to ongoing professional development, and capable of collaborating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate accurate, up-to-date knowledge of content and learning standards.
- Develop instructional lessons tailored to meet the English literacy and common core academic needs of students in the bilingual/ESL classroom.
- Differentiate instruction and closely monitor student progress toward achieving instructional objectives and goals.
- Cultivate a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Utilize appropriate research-based EL methods for direct instruction of academic skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to share and implement best practices for instructing students with EL needs.
- Incorporate technology to enhance instructional strategies and stay abreast of research-based materials.
- Develop assessments, unpack learning standards, and analyze student learning data to inform instructional decisions.
- Work closely with parents, teachers, and supervisors to establish effective communication and support systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned for the continuous improvement of the EL program.
