The City of Saginaw is seeking a skilled Engineering Technician I to contribute technical expertise to construction projects, both on-site and in-office. Responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and documenting contracted work, utilizing GPS data collectors and computer-aided design and mapping software.

- Serves as primary construction inspector for a variety of engineering projects.
- Uses survey data collectors to document underground water and sewer as-built information and ensures that completed quantities are correct.
- Updates sewer /water records from measurement changes, field certifications, and as-built construction plans.
- Reviews and documents construction material submittals, including subcontracts, material certifications, test results and material sources, and all other MDOT and Federal construction requirements.
- Participates in various phases of design and/or construction for municipal projects.
- Participates in Engineering office operations.
- Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Six to eight years' experience in Civil Engineering with a focus on site construction inspection.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, survey data collectors (e.g., Leica GPS Data Collectors), and Computer-Aided Design/Drafting (Autodesk products: Civil 3D, MAP, AutoCAD, ESRI/GIS Software).
- Certifications: Stormwater construction, MDOT Concrete Technician, HMA paving operations, MDOT FieldManager Office Technician (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Strong mathematical background (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry), both in English and metric measure.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with MDOT computer programs (MERL, Roadsoft/GIS, FieldManager) and city computer programs (e.g., BS&A) preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license.
- Must be able to lift concrete test cylinders weighing 30-40 pounds.
- Works outdoors a minimum of fifty percent of the year, not limited to warm weather months.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
- Must be able to drive to job site when assigned away from the office.
- Must be able to traverse uneven terrain and enter excavations up to 20 feet deep.
