Engineering Safety Supervisor
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of Management will provide technical leadership over the Engineering and Safety departments of the contract. Will perform functions to plan, manage, and control the assigned activities of both departments as necessary. Applies extensive experience and judgment to duties and be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to perform functions of the job. Performs oversight of the Engineering and Safety department's assessments of facilities, systems and operations associated with hypergolic propellants, cryogenics, high pressure pneumatics and life support equipment. Leads and directs the Engineering and Safety departments' personnel.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Provides technical guidance, training, instruction, and professional development assistance to engineering and safety personnel. Provide input for employee evaluations and hiring recommendations to Program Manager.
- Works with Operations Supervisor in determining schedules, troubleshooting, and operations of assigned systems.
- Assists in development of estimates for "Work Requests" or small jobs considered additional to the scope of the contract which requires detailed analysis (hours and costs) for a particular effort.
- Performs Engineering oversight and works with the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring the Mechanical Integrity Inspections of hazardous systems that identify, document, and resolve of system deficiencies are in compliance.
- Responsible for preparation, review and implementation of system designs as necessary to support overall project objectives.
- Oversees subcontractors throughout project phases to include updating schedules and coordinating assigned work and reporting the status to the Program Manager.
- Performs Process Safety Management functions as required by OSHA having responsibility over assigned elements of the PSM standard and the record keeping of applicable documents.
- Performs Engineering oversight and production of drawings and figures utilizing AutoCAD.
- Acts as Configuration Manager for critical systems.
- Prepares Engineering Field Instructions (EFI's) that direct Field Technicians to conduct operations.
- Provides technical direction to engineers or technicians in the performance of Operations, EFI's, Repairs, or Troubleshooting as necessary.
- Supervisor over the Health and Safety function of the contract guiding Safety personnel in application of health and safety policies of the company as they relate to VAFB contract.
- Knowledge and compliance of the following standards and codes: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS welding standards, CGA compressed gas standards, DOT regulations for portable pressure vessels, National Electrical Code (NEC), Military Standards relating to propellants and propellant systems, and AFSPC Manual 91-710, Range Safety User Requirements.
REQUISITE SKILLS:
- Extensive knowledge of a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures in propellants, or related area will be applied. Extensive background in design and testing of aerospace ground support systems and facilities desirable.
- Experience and Knowledge of OSHA 29CFR 1910.119, Process Safety Management
- Advanced PC skills with experience in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), and AutoCAD.
- Must have excellent verbal, technical writing and communication skills.
- The ability to work within a team as well as lead and apply direction across multiple departments.
