As an integral part of our multi-discipline engineering team in Advanced Weapons, you will be on the forefront of developing next generation solutions to protect technology for our nation’s warfighter. The ideal candidate will support one of our Advanced Programs as the lead for defining and architecting a secured missile weapon system. This position will require close collaboration with team members of other projects within the organization for security architecture designs as well as external partners and customers.

What You’ll get to Do:

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking a talented, energized and innovative individual who desires to enter the challenging and highly specialized field of System Safety Engineering as a member of our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Northridge, CA or Tucson, AZ.

The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's System Safety team within Specialty Engineering. Activities include System Safety analysis of military weapon systems, participation in risk assessments/resolution, mishap investigations and collaboration with internal/external customers and suppliers.

This requisition may be filled at either a Systems Engineer Level or Systems Engineer Principal Level based on the qualifications listed below.

Relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available.

Basic Qualifications for a System Safety Engineer:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant degree with 2 years of relevant/related experience
  • Systems Engineering background
  • Familiar with developing, reviewing, updating, and approving system verification artifacts and system requirements
  • Exposure to electrical circuit design
  • Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate issues
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Have held a DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)

Basic Qualifications for a Principal System Safety Engineer:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant degree with 5 years of relevant/related experience or a MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant degree with 3 years of relevant/related experience
  • Systems Engineering background
  • Experience in developing, reviewing, updating, and approving system verification artifacts and system requirements
  • Familiarity with electrical circuit design
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate issues
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work independently
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Have held a DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with electrical circuit design
  • History of demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work independently
  • Have experience in the design of missile systems
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of implementing and testing software safety requirements
  • Familiarity with military System Safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as MIL-STD-882
  • Possess active DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)
Salary Range: $87,200 - $130,800
Salary Range 2: $107,300 - $160,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
