Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Engineering Intern compiles and analyzes data necessary to assist in the development of periodic performance and required GADS reports. Analyzes and interprets trends to assist engineers and other personnel to justify projects and/or process changes to improve station performance, reliability, safety, and efficiency. Assists core teams with equipment inspection, troubleshooting, and improvement implementation. Assists in coordination and execution of field projects, outage, and maintenance activities. Assists in managing the technical library and performing drawing updates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in developing GADS (Generation Availability Data System) reporting in compliance with NERC/MISO guidelines.
- Obtains data necessary to compile monthly and other periodic performance and station statistical reports. Verifies accuracy of data and provides reports within prescribed deadlines to others within the organization. Assists in the interpretation and trending of data to allow for improvement/correction of performance issues.
- Assists Project Managers and Equipment Owners by gathering factual data to support projects and/or modifications to equipment or processes to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Assists engineers with equipment inspection, troubleshooting, data collection and cost estimation. Assists engineering department with document and drawing management needs. Assists with performance and PDM testing and data collection, analysis and report preparation. Assists Equipment Owners with identification of spare parts, development of preventative maintenance (PM) work orders and equipment documentation. Assists in investigation of root cause failure analysis.
- Provides assistance to core teams as needed.
- Assists Station Management in developing reports and analyzing trends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in a technical field and in good academic standing
- Self-starter with ability to work with limited direct supervision.
- Ability to work safely, timely, and within budget.
- Possess the following skills: able to communicate at all levels, excellent written and verbal communication skills, Strong problem solving and resolution skills, ability to manage multiple tasks with varying due dates, able to assist in the field.
- General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint...etc.) and Accounting/Purchasing Software
- Ability to work in a team environment.
The work environment combines both office and plant working conditions. Candidate must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection harnesses. Intern may be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. The successful candidate must occasionally work outside normal business hours as necessary to support emergent situations and planned outages. This position is a plant-based position and is not eligible for remote work scheduling.
