Job Summary
Support instruction based on a specific area(s) of expertise. This position will deliver classroom and hands-on instruction with minimum supervision. Instructors and will be used when classes require an Instructor of this category.Duties & Responsibilities
- Work under limited supervision to achieve course and educational deliverables.
• Deliver instruction and education following IFSI policies, as directed by the Program Manager.
• Organize the teaching environment to maximize the learning experience and provide a safe environment.
• Maintain class rosters of participants in the class.
• Oversee testing required by IFSI policy, course requirements, and IDPH and NAEMT standards.
• Ensure that all proper documentation is complete and delivered to administrative support staff on time.
• Provide authoritative, detailed professional and technical knowledge in matters encompassed by this position description.
• As assigned, act as the Instructor-in-charge and curriculum development.
• Provide field training and supervision of the EMS - Basic and Assistant Field Staff Instructors. - Other related duties may arise based on the Program and the Institute.
• Maintain strict adherence to the University of Illinois and IFSI policy, rules, and regulations.

Working Conditions
Baccalaureate degree in fire science or related discipline. A minimum of 4 years of firesuppression, EMS, or related professional experience. Demonstrated teaching experiencewithin one's department, at regional classes, community colleges, or otherappropriate EMS or professional forums. IDPH or NAEMT EMT - Basic Licensure, ValidDriver's License, Department Driver Approval Form, BLS CPR card.Must have a least one of the following: IDPH or NAEMT EMT Paramedic Licensure or higher, EMS Lead Instructor License, or BLS CPR Instructor certification, or ECSI Instructorcertification, or Fire Instructor II.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with computer software such as Microsoft Office. Authorship and publication of articles related to EMS. Participation in EMS research project. Familiarity with curriculum development and design. NAEMSE EMS Lead Instructor ll. Upload licensure when completed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Required: Physical capacity to perform most of the same duties as a fire/ems worker member. Includes, but is not limited to, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. or more, using EMS equipment and techniques. Demonstrated a record of performance, positive attitude, and ability to work well with others. Experience in working with a course budget.Preferred: Complete 10 hours of EMS continuing education each year.
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/1/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
