Job Description

The Director of Emergency Management reports into the Executive Director, Corporate Security and leads, oversees and coordinates operations and services of Westgate Resorts' Emergency Management program; supervises the work of assigned staff; implements program goals and objectives; and performs a variety of administrative and professional tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility. This position requires availability to be on call 24hours and travel in and out of state as needed. While this position does not have direct supervision on any number of team members, the Director of Emergency Management will work with all properties to prepare and put in place their Emergency Management programs.

As an Emergency Management Director, you will:

  • Write and revise Emergency Management plans.
  • Respond to field emergencies and coordinate the company's response in significant emergency situations.
  • Develop, manage, and coordinate emergency preparedness and disaster recovery programs.
  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing Emergency Management training.
  • Lead, oversee and coordinate emergency service activities including developing, implementing, and maintaining Westgate Resorts' emergency preparedness and advise Senior leadership during critical events, crises and disasters.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing emergency preparedness services; implement policies and procedures.
  • Monitor program performance; recommend and implement modifications to systems and procedures.
  • Develop and conduct Emergency Management training sessions with other departments.
  • Develop relations with outside organizations including local, state, and federal fire suppression organizations, FEMA, county sheriff's department, Red Cross, and utility companies; maintain close working relationships to ensure rapid and coherent response in emergency situations.
  • Oversee and direct a variety of emergency related training programs with resorts including disaster preparedness programs, hurricanes, fires, etc. including major incidents.
  • Prepare and present executive reports to Senior leadership.
  • Develop Emergency Management policy recommendations and tabletop exercises.
  • Respond to and coordinate significant emergency situations; provide emergency planning consultation to various departments within the company.
  • Develop and oversee the Command Center's emergency operations; evaluate regular and emergency communication systems; make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Promote and coordinate specific activities within the Emergency Management program.
  • Maintain records for disaster relief programs; maintain and file emergency preparedness reports; prepare statistical reports as required.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of emergency preparedness; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Perform timely internal investigations with well-reasoned and supported decision making including the recommendation of whether a criminal report should be filed.
  • Coordinate with Law Enforcement.
  • Must be able to work any shift, (day or night), and be on call and available 24 hours
  • Must be flexible to travel in and out of state as needed
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Possess a deep understanding and working knowledge of Emergency Management principles and regulatory requirements, risk assessment, disaster response, and business continuity
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure with commitment to deliver under tight deadlines
  • Assist fellow Security Managers and Directors with establishing emergency preparedness plans and contingency plans and recovery
  • Strong computer and software skills specifically with Microsoft Office with emphasis in Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present information in different degrees of details and form depending on the audience
  • Strong judgment and experience with escalation of matters and recommended solutions
  • Attention to detail and quality assurance
Qualifications
  • 5-7+ years' professional and relevant work experience
  • 1-3+ years of hands-on experience in Emergency Management, crisis management and investigations are required Experience working within a hospitality industry, such as guest safety, property security, and operational continuity
  • Experience with partnering and supervising internal and external stakeholders who are not in the direct reporting chain

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management, public safety, public administration, or a related field preferred or equivalent and relevant work experience required
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and FEMA Certifications highly preferred
