Description
We are looking for someone to
  • Provide supervision, coaching, evaluation, and training of assigned staff.
  • Provide daily operational oversight to the performing of all types of Vegetation Management, pruning, and tree trimming, including the trimming in close proximity to high-voltage power lines.
  • Evaluate and oversee the use of existing technologies within the Division.
  • Manage assigned portions of the division budget related to Vegetation Management for the transmission and distribution system and open spaces.
  • Coordinate the work of assigned staff by establishing and implementing procedures for quality control and efficiency.
  • Resolve field problems with assigned staff.
  • Write specifications for use in bidding for tools and/or purchasing work equipment for use by Electric Utility.
  • Manage rolling stock needs for Line Clearance Operations and coordinate with the City of Redding Fleet Maintenance and REU Finance and Business Services.

Qualifications we're looking for
  • Knowledge of day-to-day tree trimming and Vegetation Management of an electric utility
  • Knowledge of G.O 95
  • Knowledge of utility operating and construction methods
  • Knowledge of general knowledge of bucket trucks, chippers, and chainsaws
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, customers, vendors, and City personnel. Effectively communicate both orally and in a written manner
  • Ability to demonstrate supervisor skills
  • Ability to understand the operation of field equipment and procedures

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
  • Typical education would include graduation from an accredited college/university with a Bachelor's (or advanced) degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, Finance, Energy Management, Economics, or a related field.
  • Typical experience includes seven years of relevant experience with an electric utility or business engaged in Vegetation Management including at least two years of relevant supervisory experience. Four years of supervisory experience in Vegetation Management for a city, utility, or contractor may substitute for two years of college education in a related field.
  • Possession of the appropriate class State of California driver's license or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.

Holidays:

An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.
Vacation:
Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.
Sick Leave:
Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.
Health Insurance:
Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees.
Retirement:
Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System.
Administrative Leave:

Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.
Deferred Compensation Plans:
Available for interested employees.
Union Dues: Job classifications in the unrepresented group do not pay union dues.
Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program:
Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
SDI:
Unrepresented positions do not participate in SDI.
