The Department of Defense (DOD) manages the DOD SkillBridge Program, an opportunity for active-duty Service Members to gain civilian work experience during their last 180 days of service. DOD SkillBridge connects service members with organizations that offer internship opportunities for transitioning Service Members to build their resumes, explore employment interests, and develop job skills.

Through Thorne’s SkillBridge Internship Program, we will assist Service Members in developing professional skills and gaining valuable industry work experience through on-the-job training to prepare for future internships or employment in the civilian workplace. In accordance with the DOD SkillBridge Program, internships are unpaid, full time and not to exceed 40 hours each week. All internships at Thorne will be at least 3 months/12 weeks in length.

ELGLBILITY REQUREMENTS

Service members may begin their internship after the following requirements have been met:

  1. Service members may participate in a Thorne SkillBridge Internship Program opportunity no earlier than 180 days prior to release from active duty.
  2. Be approved by unit commander for a minimum of a 3 months/12-week internship. Please note Thorne is a "Cohort Employer" which requires approval from both the immediate unit commander and installation superior above the commander.
  3. Agree that participation in SkillBridge can be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Product Documentation Program Coordinator Intern follows established procedures to coordinate and perform activities involved in the transfer of critical product formulation and manufacturing methods for the creation and maintenance of the Electronic Batch Record (EBR) system. In addition, this role supports the upload and transfer of information product formulation and manufacturing methods to Master Formulas (MFs), Master Manufacturing Records (MMRs), Finished Product Specifications (FPSs), Label Change Orders (LCOs), Label Specifications (LSs), Component Specifications (CSs), Outside Contract Manufacturers (OCMs), Raw Material Specifications (RMSs), Bill of Materials (BOMs), and Product Master Files (PMFs). The Product Documentation Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the consistency and quality of product through the accurate and efficient maintenance and tracking of product changes.

This Internship will include a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.

RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job.

  • Works closely with various departments including Engineering, Medical, Production, and Quality to develop, maintain, and manage changes to the product formulas of all products produced by or for Thorne (including products made for contract customers).
  • Supports the Electronic Batch Record project.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on electronic batch records.
  • Collaborates in real time with Engineering, Medical, Production, and Quality personnel to create or edit documents.
  • Serves as a liaison in urgent and complex issues for Engineering, Marketing, Medical, Planning, Procurement, Production, and Quality.
  • Performs new product and new item setup, formula changes, and product discontinuance tasks through change control system and Thorne’s Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) software (Microsoft Dynamics NAV), ensuring all applicable individuals are notified.
  • Develops, verifies, and maintains MMRs, ensuring correct information is represented.
  • Develops, verifies, and maintains FPSs, ensuring correct information is represented.
  • Develops, verifies, and maintains additional specifications, including raw materials, packaging components, labels, outside contract manufacturing (OCM), and empty capsules.
  • Creates department training materials, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
  • Evaluates CM checklists to ensure scope meets correct process and/or documentation requirements for implementation.
  • Assists with ongoing implementation tasks related to NAV, including continued testing and system verification.
  • Generates and manages the change process for any approved changes ensuring that revisions to formulas and BOMs are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Organizes and leads meetings for determining solutions and proposes ideas for implementation.
  • Manages personal and team priorities for special projects and urgent tasks.
  • Evaluates risk and the ability to address random urgencies regardless of prior knowledge and completes the task before escalation.
  • Performs special projects and other Program Office duties as they arise.
  • Seeks formal and informal performance assessments of self, including performance versus expectations and goals, behaviors, and leadership potential.
  • Actively participate in required training and development programs and electives as suits one’s needs, and support colleagues, trainers, and management as appropriate with these efforts.
  • Maintains knowledge of the applicable provisions of the department’s SOPs and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and follows them. Remains knowledgeable on an ongoing and timely basis as changes in the SOPs and cGMPs occur.

Experience and/or Education: By training, education and/or experience, employee must be able to perform the essential duties of the job including:

  • Highschool diploma or GED required. Associates Degree preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with verbal and written fluency in English. Ability to document and present work in a clear and concise manner.

Computer and Technical Skills: Knowledge of PC computer software and hardware including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS – Being able to meet the Physical Demands of the job is an essential duty of the job.

  • Must be able to work in a stationary position as well as move about unassisted. Must be able to safely and carefully operate and use assigned equipment and machinery. Must be able to hear and converse with supervisors and other employees. Must be able to see and read small print. Must be able to work in a moderate noise level environment. Must be able to work a 10-hour or 8-hour shift and overtime as assigned. Must be able to move or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds from floor to table and from table to floor, during an 8-hour shift.
