We are looking for a Documentation Architect and Technical Writer to develop, generate, and maintain technical documentation for the Actian portfolio of platform solutions, such as operations and reference guides, installation and quick start guides, and complete product documentation for print, help, and online distribution. We also need this role to evaluate new tools and processes for maintaining documentation repositories, publishing documentation for various deliverables, and implementing documentation standards across a diverse publishing landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and receive information from SMEs and all relevant sources.
- Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and deliver quality documentation that is accurate, thorough, and meets project deadlines.
- Participate in formal project meetings and provide feedback on documentation deliverables and project status.
- Write and format documents to adhere to established standards.
- Edit documents for technical and grammatical accuracy.
- Use digital tools to create accurate representation of software products.
- Participate in formal document control processes.
- Manage all technical documentation responsibilities for multiple new development projects simultaneously.
Further Key Responsibilities
- Fulfill the responsibilities of Technical Writer:
- Develop standards for the writing and production of documentation.
- Develop strategies to transform and migrate documentation to new tools and standardize tools within Actian/HCLSoftware.
- Maintain documentation repositories using GIT, Stash, and other tools and applications.
- Publish documentation to and maintain docs.actian.com.
- Act as liaison between the Documentation department and IT for documentation-related technical issues.
- Maintain publishing software and test new releases before implementing across the department.
- Update and maintain documentation templates and propagate them across all Actian documentation products.
- Write, update, and maintain internal procedures for the Documentation department.
- Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge according to departmental directives.
Essential Qualifications
- BS/BA in English, Technical Writing, Journalism, or equivalent degree/experience
- 6+ years' experience working in a fast-paced hardware or software production environment.
- Knowledgeable about recent developments in publishing software and electronic distribution techniques (knowledge of XML and DITA ideal).
- Advanced knowledge and experience in Adobe FrameMaker, WebWorks ePublisher, Adobe Acrobat, and one or more the following publishing tools required: Oxygen, XMetal, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator.
- Other technical skills required (one or more of the following): Unix, Linux, and Windows, Documentation languages such as HTML and XML, Microsoft Office and other productivity tools
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic project-oriented environment, with a globally dispersed team.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
