POSITION TITLE: Diverse Leadership in Motorsports Program (DLMP)  IT Operations Intern

DEPARTMENT:  Information Technology

REPORTS TO: Director, IT Infrastructure and Operations

POSITION LOCATION: Indianapolis

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

DLMP SUMMARY:

Penske Entertainment's Diverse Leadership in Motorsports Program (DLMP) is dedicated to providing unique and enriching opportunities to ethnically and/or racially diverse college students who hope to secure full-time employment in the sports and entertainment industries after graduation.

DLMP interns will be a part of the broader College Program, working and learning as members of their respective departments to receive valuable hands-on experience within those fields while receiving ongoing access to programming designed to support a well-rounded experience.

Participants will develop both their personal and professional skills by forming meaningful relationships with experienced professionals, working collaboratively with their cohort, and expanding their knowledge of the Indianapolis community while serving as ambassadors of Penske Entertainment.

In addition, DLMP interns specifically, will engage in a variety of activities focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. This enhanced programming includes time with various leaders in the broader Indiana sports community to learn about their organizations, their DEI efforts and feedback on the skills and experiences that sports, and entertainment organizations are looking for.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide customers with telephone and desk-side technical support for software applications, networking issues, and remote access. Support and maintain PC hardware and software including new computer setup, images, software installation, upgrades, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting, as required. Support a LAN/WAN environment using TCP/IP connectivity. The IT Operations Intern is part of the College Program and is eligible for all relevant programming and experiences.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Act as the initial contact point for Penske Entertainment properties including IMS, INDYCAR and IMS Productions, by answering the IT HelpDesk phone and creating a ticket in the HelpDesk ticketing system based on information obtained from the requestor.
  • Assist customers (users) that contact the IT HelpDesk in resolving their issue.
  • Work with the IT Operations team in assigning tickets and resolving technology issues.
  • Assist IT Operations Team with temporary network deployments and other event setup tasks.
  • Assist IT Operations Team with troubleshooting and staffing during track events.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by IT management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Education

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with an IT focused curriculum.

Skills/Experience

  • Training and/or experience in supporting IT technology in a business environment.
  • Experience using and supporting Microsoft desktop products, Office 365, etc.
  • Knowledge of desktop/laptop hardware and software.
  • Basic understanding of cloud-based technologies.
  • Experience in a role that directly interacts with multiple people on a daily basis.
  • Must be technically minded and able to solve basic computer and software issues.
  • Must be outgoing, friendly and have a pleasant and calm personality.
  • Must be able to calmly communicate with Penske Entertainment employees, including IMS, INDYCAR and IMS Productions, when requesting assistance in stressful situations.

Travel/Work Hours

  • No Travel
  • General office hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm from early-May to early-August
  • Overtime hours during nights/weekends may be required during major events

  • Physical demands consist primarily of sitting, sometimes for long hours
  • Must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must have the stamina to work long hours and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends or evenings

    • Interns are faced with frequent interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis.
    • The noise level in the work environment can be loud, due to professional racing events.
