The Environment
The Department of Immunology Discovery conducts rigorous and trail-blazing research to enable target discovery and preclinical drug development toward our mission of generating transformative medicines for inflammatory, autoimmune, fibrotic and retinal disorders. We have access to unique and cutting-edge resources including multi-modal and clinical outcome data from thousands of patients in interventional and observational clinical studies; state-of-the-art laboratory facilities; external facing collaborations with world-class academic investigators and centers; and a diverse array of internal research and pharmaceutical functions including genetics, computational science, reverse translation, pathology, in vitro and in vivo models, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, antibody and protein engineering, imaging, structural biology, sequencing, biomarkers, metabolomics and proteomics. Many of these functions have been tailored to support development and delivery of the most efficacious ophthalmic medicines of tomorrow. Other therapeutic areas in our research community include Infectious Diseases, Neuroscience, Cancer Immunology and Molecular Oncology. The Genentech research community is home to highly accomplished and award-winning scientists as well as an outstanding postdoctoral training program.
