Neuromuscular Drug Discovery
Summary:
We are actively seeking a Summer Intern for 2024 to join our Neuromuscular Drug Discovery department. The internship will involve working on a project focused on assessing the biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and excretion of antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) with different chemical modifications across various tissues, including skeletal muscle, liver, and kidney. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the ASO technology, RNA isolation, and RT-PCR techniques. The learning experience extends to hands-on training in diverse methodologies such as animal handling, application of metabolic cages, subcutaneous drug dosing, tissue dissection, and hybridization-based ELISA. Throughout the project, interns will acquire a foundational understanding of skeletal muscle biology and related diseases, in addition to gaining insights into ASO technology applications. Regular and direct interaction with our neuroscience and pharmacokinetics teams will provide a unique chance for interns to develop teamwork skills and engage in thought-provoking discussions that stimulate critical thinking.

Requirements:
- MUST have a High School Diploma or GED
- MUST be currently enrolled in a U.S. Undergraduate Degree Program and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship
- MUST be able to begin internship between 6/11/24 and 6/17/24
- MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour work week
- MUST be able and willing to remain in program through at least 8/16/24
- MUST be able to demonstrate solid knowledge and understanding of scientific methodology
- Students with degree in Biological Science with a Focus in Neuroscience/Neurobiology Preferred
- Project will require to be onsite in Carlsbad, CA
