Cardiovascular Drug Discovery
Summary:
The Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism Drug Discovery team is hiring a Summer Intern for 2024 to support a heart failure and cardiomyopathy Drug Discovery project. The goals of this project are to investigate changes in the expression and alternative splicing of disease-modifying genes in rodent- and human stem cell-based models of heart failure and cardiomyopathy to improve the selection of drug modalities for therapeutic targets. The intern will have the opportunity to expand their laboratory skills by assisting with and independently performing animal handling, cell culture, tissue dissection, RNA and protein isolation, RT-PCR, and will have exposure to bioinformatics analyses of mouse and human RNA-seq data sets. This project will also provide an intern with the opportunity to interact and collaborate with scientists in multiple job functions and departments spanning from cardiovascular experimentalists to bioinformaticians and gain insight into antisense and RNAi drug target identification, evaluation and drug development.

Requirements:
- MUST be currently enrolled in a U.S. Undergraduate and/or Graduate Degree Program and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship
- MUST be able to begin internship between 6/11 and 6/17/2024
- MUST be able and willing to remain in program through at least 8/16/2024
- MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour work week

The pay scale for this position is $18 to $23 per hour.
