ABOUT UT SOUTHWESTERN MEDICAL CENTER

POSITION SUMMARY
This Research Development Director position will lead UT Southwestern Medical School's effort to increase the number of large, program-project style grant applications to federal and national funding sources. This position reports directly to the Vice Provost and Dean of Basic Research with an indirect reporting relationship to the Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Research.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
REQUIRED
• Master's degree in a scientific field, business, healthcare, or a related field required.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience working with faculty in an academic or research setting, including a track record of effective communication as well as familiarity with extramural grants and/or contracts.
• Additional years of directly related experience may be considered in lieu of stated degree on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED
• PhD is strongly preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
JOB DUTIES
• Responsible for facilitating development of large, complex research grant applications in response to funding opportunities identified by UT Southwestern Medical School faculty or the Office of Research Development.
• Oversees and supports development of individual and complex funding proposals through effective interactions with all involved parties and by providing proposal management, proposal editing and/or writing integration services, program and budget development, and high-level advice and guidance.
• Hires, mentors, and supervises Research Development personnel, including overseeing and guiding their involvement in developing complex and individual grant applications, and the review and editing of grant components, including technical sections.
• Advises faculty on suitability of and approaches to large, multidisciplinary funding opportunities from federal and non-federal sources that capitalize on existing strengths and expertise.
• Collaborates with individuals at all levels of the organization to ensure successful integration of grant application components and full compliance with all funding solicitation and sponsor requirements.
• Through existing mechanisms as well as research and communication with possible sponsors, identifies large, multidisciplinary funding opportunities from federal and non-federal sources that capitalize on existing strengths and expertise.
• Works with Medical Center leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen faculty grant applications and to implement solutions.
• Actively participates in relevant institutional committees and working groups.
• Reports to Vice Provost and Dean of Basic Research and Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Research regarding Office of Research Development activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
