WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Baylor Sciences and Facilities is looking for a responsible, hands-on, and detail-oriented Research and Development Machinist. The R&D Machinist will provide technical guidance, expertise, and leadership to faculty and students regarding design and how to build complex, novel, or state of the art prototypes, components, and parts; often requiring the development of new and improved techniques, procedures, and tooling.
A High School diploma, two years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required.
An associate degree from either a community college or trade school, five years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are preferred.
A combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of the required degree and/or years of experience.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Oversee and coordinate all day-to-day operational and support activities of the shop.
- Ensure work production meets established objectives, specifications, and standards, and that all applicable operating policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Provide technical guidance, expertise, and leadership to faculty and students regarding design and how to build complex, novel, or state of the art prototypes, components, and parts; often requiring the development of new and improved techniques, procedures, and tooling.
- Produce custom tooling and fixture design for complex prototypes, as needed.
- Operate standard and specialized equipment, i.e. engine lathe, horizontal or vertical milling machines, surface grinder, bandsaw, drill press, and measuring tools to produce prototype parts.
- Consult with engineers and other personnel regarding product information to fabricate special parts and equipment, recommending material and design changes when necessary.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission.
- Ability to comply with university policies.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
