The Director of Security is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and wellbeing of individuals and property in the Oakland area. Their primary role is to develop, implement, and oversee fire prevention, emergency response, and safety programs to minimize the risks associated with fire, security breaches, and other emergencies. The primary goal is to promote and foster a culture of safety by helping to prevent accidents, injuries, and other potential risks to the organization's employees, property, and operations.
Salary range: $85,000.00 (Negotiable)

Essential Functions of the Job:
- Develop and implement fire prevention and safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various types of emergencies, including fires, natural disasters, workplace violence, or other critical incidents.
- Conduct regular safety and workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal fire codes, evolving regulations, and organizational needs. Prepare and submit required reports to relevant regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate and conduct fire drills, evacuation exercises, and other emergency response simulations. Collaborate with local emergency response teams and authorities to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to emergencies.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and potential risks related to Fire Safety. Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and implement measures to reduce accidents and injuries.
- Ensure proper maintenance, testing, and functioning of fire protection systems, alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and other safety equipment.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Maintain accurate incident records and prepare reports for management to review.
- Collaborate with school health professionals, educators, and other staff to promote a safe and secure environment for children with special needs and medical complexities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, Safety, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in fire prevention, emergency management, or related roles is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fire codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and interact with employees and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and analytical skills to conduct risk assessments and develop effective safety strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead emergency response efforts.

Physical Demands: The Safety Director will be assigned to an office setting but substantial travel within and between buildings is necessary, as well as travel within and outside the Commonwealth. Other physical and cognitive demands include:

Scope of School Operations
- 4 buildings; all in Oakland; 1 within 2 block radius (MSB, JSB, Lally House, Neville)
- 24/7 operation Sunday 7 am through Friday 11 pm; occasional needs for building access on Saturday
- Supervisory responsibilities: 2-5 security personnel
- Students: approximately 200
- Employees: approximately 350, including contractors and private duty nurses
