We are seeking an exceptional Director of Safety to lead our trucking company's safety initiatives and ensure compliance with industry regulations. This individual should possess relevant safety certifications and preferably have experience with flatbed securement. The Director of Safety will be responsible for managing insurance-related matters, including renewals, claims, and DOT audits. Leading a team of eight individuals, the ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and the ability to quickly connect with our international team. Job Summary:
The Director of Safety is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the safety programs and practices of Nova Lines, a flatbed trucking company. This role involves managing insurance-related activities, including renewals, claims, and DOT audits. The Director of Safety will lead a team of eight individuals and should possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of Safety regulations, and the ability to connect quickly with our international team. The ideal candidate will also have a solid operations background, demonstrating a growth mindset and actively seeking opportunities for improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead a team of Safety professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a proactive safety culture.
- Manage insurance-related activities, including renewals, claims, and coordination with insurance providers.
- Conduct DOT audits and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Investigate and analyze incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement safety-related initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging regulations, and best practices to ensure the company's safety programs remain current and effective.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels, promoting safety awareness and ensuring proper understanding of policies and procedures. • Monitor and analyze safety metrics, preparing reports and providing recommendations for improving safety performance.
- Oversee driver qualification processes, including background checks, drug testing, and driver training.
- Foster strong connections and communication with the international team, adapting to cultural differences and ensuring consistent safety standards.
Requirements:
- Willingness to work full-time at our new Bridgeview, IL terminal
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., Certified Director of Safety, Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
- Experience in the trucking industry, with a focus on safety and compliance.
- Knowledge of flatbed securement practices preferred.
- Familiarity with insurance processes, including renewals and claims management.
- Proven experience managing DOT audits and ensuring compliance with regulations.
