About the Role

The National Bleeding Disorder Foundation (NBDF) is seeking a Director of Public Relations & Communications to advance the organization's mission by spearheading comprehensive communication and Public Relations initiatives. This leadership position involves collaborating with internal departments to develop and implement a diverse array of Public Relations, communication, and media relations activities to support NBDF's overarching mission and vision. Reporting to the VP of Advancement, this role will work in close partnership with the Director of Online Marketing and the Director of Communications, as well as key leaders within the foundation to drive strategic imperatives.


Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and enhance an organizational Public Relations and communications strategy that increases brand awareness, clarifies brand experience, and personalizes what NBDF means to communities through various events, engagements, interviews, op-eds and public facing opportunities.
  • Pitch and secure media opportunities, op-ed placements, influencer meetings and events through traditional and digital channels.
  • Compose effective press releases, media alerts, and stories and prepare information for media kits.
  • Collaborate with other Public Relations professionals throughout NBDF’s chapter network to ensure we are speaking with one voice, leveraging, and lifting compelling stories across the foundation.
  • Partner with third party vendor and act as main editor to Hemaware Magazine – the bleeding disorders lifestyle magazine created twice per year with a circulation of 20,000 plus.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with media outlets to publish company information, such as press releases, brochures, and other materials.
  • Identify main constituent groups and audiences and determine the best way to communicate publicity.
  • Analyze all media coverage of the organization and draft appropriate responses.
  • Manage multiple communications and Public Relations projects for the entire foundation keeping consistent messaging and advancing them forward, including budgets and timelines.
  • Supervising the Communications Assistant, the Marketing and Communications Specialist, and the Production and Creative Services Specialist; managing and overseeing all activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Where You Will Work:

This is a remote role, and the candidate can be based anywhere in the U.S; the ideal candidate will have comfort working remotely with a team located throughout the U.S. This position requires travel 5-7 times per year with the ability to work at evening or weekend events.

Compensation:

We have carefully considered industry benchmarks, the experience required for this position, and internal salary comparisons to determine the appropriate salary range for this role. For this position, NBDF has set a starting base salary range $ 95,000- $107,300 and it is non-negotiable due to our company's commitment to maintaining internal pay equity. This approach ensures that we maintain a fair and consistent compensation structure across the organization.

What You Bring:

To qualify for this unique opportunity, our ideal candidate should have the following skills, education, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 to 10 + years of Public Relations experience that includes media relations in mid-large sized non-profit organization.
  • A strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a competitive Public Relations environment.
  • Ability to coach and support senior leaders as spokespersons.
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing public relation strategies.
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position public relation discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
  • Superior writing skills with rigorous attention to detail.
