Pace is a leading international art gallery representing some of the most influential contemporary artists and estates from the past century, holding decades-long relationships with Alexander Calder, Jean Dubuffet, Barbara Hepworth, Agnes Martin, Louise Nevelson, and Mark Rothko. Pace enjoys a unique U.S. heritage spanning East and West coasts through its early support of artists central to the Abstract Expressionist and Light and Space movements. Since its founding by Arne Glimcher in 1960, Pace has developed a distinguished legacy as an artist-first gallery that mounts seminal historical and contemporary exhibitions. Under the current leadership of CEO Marc Glimcher, Pace continues to support its artists and share their visionary work with audiences worldwide by remaining at the forefront of innovation. Today, Pace has seven locations worldwide, including a European foothold in London and Geneva; two galleries in New York; Los Angeles; Hong Kong; and Seoul, as well as offices in Beijing and Berlin. In spring 2024, Pace will open its first gallery space in Japan in Tokyo’s new Azabudai Hills development.

Under the direction of the CCO and PR Director, the Associate Director of Public Relations is responsible for the development and execution of Pace Gallery’s press strategy in the Americas. As a member of a dynamic PR team, the role will support all PR efforts in accordance with the overall vision and objectives of Pace Gallery and will also collaborate with our Europe and Asia teams to advance Pace Gallery’s holistic brand and vision globally.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Under the direction and guidance of the CCO and PR Director, actively develop a comprehensive and strategic PR plan for exhibitions, art fairs, and other corporate initiatives in the Americas
  • Outreach to editors, writers and other press contacts in accordance with each initiative’s tailored PR plan
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with press contacts both nationally and internationally
  • Develop creative news pitches and story angles, ensuring placement of articles in targeted media outlets in accordance with overall PR strategy
  • Identify and propose methods for capturing new editorial opportunities
  • Develop Public Relations initiatives to promote awareness of the exhibition activities and increase exposure for the gallery, its artists, and its senior leadership
  • Research, write and/or edit various written materials including press releases, press updates, narrative biographies, and other collateral press materials; or work in close concert with the gallery’s in-house Writer who leads on press release writing
  • Respond to incoming Public Relations requests in a timely manner
  • Ensure all press-related materials are consistently updated including the press archives, press kits, website, and Press Room
  • Develop ideas to maximize the impact of the gallery website from a Public Relations perspective
  • Partner with Marketing and Events Director to maximize effectiveness of publicity for special events
  • Provide press-related updates at department meetings

Requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • BA Degree in Art History, Communications, or related field
  • 5+ years of Public Relations or related experience within the arts field
  • In-depth knowledge of modern and contemporary artists
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Meticulous eye for detail
  • Proven success in dealing with media and managing Public Relations functions
  • Existing network of established media contacts
  • Proven track record of placing coverage in leading media outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and leading arts trade outlets
  • Ability to interface effectively with and gain alignment with senior leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
