Job Purpose:

The Director Programs and Community Engagement is responsible for planning, developing, implementing of all Food Bank of Northern Nevada programs that directly support and serve the communities throughout the service area. This includes evaluating the effectiveness, reach and impact of all programs and partner relationships and has primary oversight for all food distribution efforts, in partnership with their team. Distribution programs include mobile distribution programs, Agency Relations, Senior hunger programs, child feeding programs, SNAP outreach, Prescription Pantry and Nutrition Education. This position is also tasked with increasing and leveraging the effectiveness of the Food Bank's community partnerships by being an actively involved with efforts that support food insecurity, health equity and anti-poverty efforts.


Program Duties:

  • Overall responsibility for development and ongoing implementation of all programs and partner agency plans in compliance with Feeding America's PFBA (Partner Food Bank Agreement) and all federal and state guidelines.
  • Monitor and assess services required by people experiencing hunger and develop programs to serve them.
  • Develop programmatic strategies, goals, and assessment criteria to meet needs, and direct activities to accomplish them in coordination with Food Bank team.
  • Support the Agency Relations team in review new agency applications and ensure that Agency Relations team perform timely on-site evaluation visits, and oversee new partner agency orientations.
  • Monitor that all data collected from agencies and direct service programs is timely and accurate and work with each team to analyze data trends.
  • Support planning and execution of annual Partner Agency Conference.
  • Ensure all programs are in compliance with all federal and state guidelines as well as Feeding America Requirements.
  • Engage with other organizations in our service area to increase impact and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Food Sourcing to ensure alignment on strategy and execution.


Management Duties:

  • Manage and direct staff in daily operations of FBNN programs and agency relations departments including hiring, training, monitoring performance, annual performance evaluations, corrective or disciplinary action and ensuring goals and client needs are met.
  • Work with the executive team to create and implement program goals, initiatives and outcome measures.
  • Work with the executive team and program managers/supervisors to collect data and evaluate program performance and assess impact.
  • Responsible for meeting strategic plan goals for all Programs.
  • Provide daily direction and communication to employees so that work is performed in a timely, efficient and knowledgeable manner. Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures.
  • Participate in long range planning, strategy development, and budgeting.
  • Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
  • Provide statistical and performance feedback and coaching on a regular basis to each team member. Write and administer performance reviews for skill improvement.
  • Contribute to management team effectiveness.
  • Hire, train, develop, and evaluate all programs staff
  • Represent FBNN to community groups and events through networking, public relations, and speaking engagements.
  • Engage in educational and advocacy efforts with agency partners, donors, government entities, and elected officials.
  • Perform other duties, as requested.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Director of Programs has direct supervision of all supervisors and managers in the Programs Department as well as other team members as assigned.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in an office setting. Employee may occasionally work in the field and may be subject to differing weather conditions. Employee utilizes a computer a significant portion of the day. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate computers, objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability and patience to sit for long periods of time entering data.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an Exempt full-time position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00-4:30pm. Schedule may be variable at times and may include the occasional weekend. Must be willing to work in the evenings and on weekends when called upon.


Travel

Local travel to various events, program sites and meetings as required.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. In lieu of degrees the equivalent of a min 10 years increasingly responsible experience in a mid to department level management capacity.
  • Nonprofit leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to familiarize oneself with local community leaders and external stakeholder organizations.
  • Experience in budget development and management
  • Understanding of and experience with support grant development and grants management.
  • Must be a skilled professional with knowledge of operational and programmatic functions; understanding of logistics and a willingness to learn new processes and systems.
  • Demonstrated progression of increased responsibility and skills.


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Advanced Degree preferred or special certifications relevant to position a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-faceted and simultaneous projects.
  • Experience in developing strategic frameworks and related initiatives.
  • Understanding and experience in promoting Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practices.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn health and safety requirements in food distribution programs
