Job Description
The Instructor/Director of Clinical Education for the Cardiorespiratory is a full-time position, located at the Great Basin College (GBC) campus and lab locations include Elko, Winnemucca, or Renown. This position will report to the Respiratory Therapy Program Director. The Instructor/Director of Clinical Education for the Cardiorespiratory program must be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the program including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of location (with appropriate supervision) for evolving practice skills, and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience. In addition, the successful candidate will arrange respiratory therapy clinical placement for students. There will also be oversight of part-time faculty that will teach in remote locations. The successful candidate will instruct students within Nevada. This program includes live instruction, as well as delivery of content through interactive video (IAV), zoom and via the WebCampus online learning platform.
This position is currently grant funded through June 2024 and additional funding must be obtained in order for the position to be sustained.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy with a minimum of an Baccalaureate degree.
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
  • Minimum of four years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and two years of clinical respiratory care. Two years teaching experience at the community college level preferred.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) by the NBRC is preferred.
  • Current Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Board of Medical Examiners Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • State of Nevada Point of Care Analyst POCA or Blood Gas Technologist license required within 120 days of hire.
  • Must have or acquire BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP before end of introductory period and ongoing thereafter.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
  • Teach and assign lab skills for student check offs. Work to assist scheduling part-time faculty for lab sites.
  • Design and implement simulation scenarios for student lab sites.
  • Maintain accurate records for each course taught.
  • Prepare, review, and update course outlines on a regular basis.
  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
  • Assist in student recruitment, advising, and retention.
  • Participate in curriculum advisory committee meetings.
  • Assist in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, and textbooks.
  • Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and others.
  • Maintain office hours to provide student advisement and participate in recruitment activities.
  • Participate in college wide activities and committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel
Due to the diverse clinical locations of students and providers, this position will require travel by car to locations (with or without accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act), occasional work on weekends, and flexible hours. With possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will participate in several state-wide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.
Compensation Grade
Academic Faculty - 2
The budgeted salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000
Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Transcripts
Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
Background Check
