Opportunity:Director of Human Resources
Location: Any Upper Peninsula Michigan Works office. Preference may be given to central UP (Marquette, Escanaba) or hub locations (Houghton, Sault Ste. Marie). This is an on-site position.

Summary: This is an exciting opportunity to bethe HR expert for an 80-employee organization. The Director is a Generalist with responsibility for benefits, compensation, compliance, training, safety, talent acquisition, retention, and performance management.
Expectations:
· Plans, directs, leads, and evaluates the organization’s human resource functions.
· Participates in the development of the organization’s strategic plans and processes; translates strategic and tactical business plans into HR operations.
· Advises senior leadership of methods to influence the attraction, motivation, development, and retention of the people resources of the organization.
· Manages the recruitment process from candidate selection to onboarding.
· Travels across the 15-county region to conduct on-site interviews and facilitate the orientation process for each new hire.
· Provides training and guidance to management in techniques to improve employee relations.
· Guides management through employee recognition and disciplinary process.
· Evaluates competitive trends in compensation, employee demographics and budgetary conditions to recommend changes to the compensation system; develops progressive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives, and rewards for effective performance.
· Coordinates annual compensation adjustments and other increases, guiding management to prevent problems with equity and market competition.
· In coordination with fiscal, manages design and delivery of all employee benefit plans. Negotiates with vendors regarding benefit delivery and cost control.
· Maintains knowledge of relevant employment laws and practices related to ADA, FMLA, FLSA, COBRA and Workers Compensation, among others; educates management on legal compliance.
· Supports the development of an organizational learning culture.
· Designs and coordinates the performance evaluation process with the goal of facilitating employee growth and development.
· Manages risky situations, claims and problematic or legal issues; maintains confidentiality.
· Establish and maintain compliant HRIS records.
· Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
· Support and further develop an organization culture of caring, listening, awareness, safety, and participation.
Job Qualifications: Ideal candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree and has 3 years’ Generalist experience and/or 5 years’ progressive HR track record. Written and verbal communication skills, detail oriented and highly organized, MS Office proficiency, professional appearance and demeanor are a must.
Salary and Benefits: Applicants are asked to submit salary expectations. Comprehensive benefit package includes low-cost medical, free dental, vision, LTD, and life insurance, retirement funding, and more than 30 paid days off annually. No working holidays!
Status: Exempt; 40 hours weekly, normal office hours, occasional evening hours and/or overnight travel.
Travel: There is a significant amount of travel. Access to a fleet vehicle is included.
