Job description

Job Title: Director of People Safety
Job Summary: The Director of People Safety, provides strategic leadership and direction to ensure the organization's compliance with environmental regulations, health standards, and safety protocols. This key leadership role involves developing and implementing comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and initiatives, fostering a culture of safety, and managing risk across all aspects of the organization's operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Develop and implement a strategic EHS plan aligned with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to EHS teams and stakeholders.
  • Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Develop, review, and update environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Implement standardized EHS practices across all departments.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay abreast of local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
    • Ensure the organization's compliance with all relevant laws and standards.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and assess environmental, health, and safety risks across all operations.
    • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and improve overall safety performance.
  • Training and Education:
    • Oversee the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees at all levels.
    • Promote awareness and understanding of EHS issues throughout the organization.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting:
    • Lead and coordinate investigations of environmental incidents, workplace accidents, and occupational illnesses.
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Health and Wellness Programs:
    • Work with the Director of People Operations and the Sr Manager of People Services and Systems to develop and promote health and wellness initiatives to enhance employee well-being.
    • Collaborate with relevant departments to address occupational health concerns.
  • Audits and Inspections:
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess EHS compliance.
    • Develop and implement corrective action plans based on audit findings.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
    • Develop and oversee emergency response plans for various scenarios.
    • Conduct drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency plans.
  • Reporting and Metrics:
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for EHS performance.
    • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on EHS metrics and initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in EHS leadership roles, preferably in multiple locations and states including California.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
