Position Details
The following position is available for the 2024-2025 School Year:
Position: Director of Buildings and Grounds
The Director of Buildings & Grounds serves under the supervision of the Superintendent and is ultimately responsible for leadership of the Maintenance Department, including but not limited to: construction projects; customer and staff service; the physical state of the District; management and supervision of maintenance, custodial, and Grounds staff; oversight of the work of employees; increasing efficiencies; staying within budget; and student/staff safety.
- Work experience in custodial and/or maintenance work, or in related trades
- A sound general knowledge of building construction, and the maintenance and operation of Buildings and Grounds
- An understanding of the specific purposes of school facilities maintenance and operation, and of the basic purposes of education in general
- The ability to organize effectively and to plan wisely
- The ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
- Proficient computer skills and the ability to use computer-based programs
- Ability to promote harmonious relationships with staff and administrators
- Knowledgeable of, or experienced in, skilled trades related to facility operations
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and to be able to operate school vehicles
- Experience in building projects (new Buildings and/or renovations)
- Management-level experience in a school environment or public organization overseeing facilities, grounds, custodial, and maintenance personnel
- Experience in the development, implementation, or supervision of mechanical and electrical systems, utility systems, and Grounds
- Experience in creating RFPs and project bids, and managing construction projects, including budget management
- Post-secondary education in related fields: e.g. engineering, construction management, etc.
Salary: $80,000 – $95,000
Calendar: 12-month position
