Job description

Since 1973, JR Engineering has successfully served a variety of clients throughout Colorado. Areas of service include land development, surveying, surface transportation, water resources, and structural engineering as well as construction services in each of our major disciplines. Our in-house staff of talented engineers, surveyors, and support personnel enables us to respond quickly to demanding assignments, project schedules, and changing project scopes. With an annual Net Revenue of $15.0 million in 2023, JR Engineering currently has 80 employees with plans to grow to 120 employees over the next 3-5 years.

Job Overview

JR Engineering is looking for an experienced Director of Finance & Support Service to oversee all financial aspects of business and drive the company’s financial strategy and planning. This position will also directly oversee the Human Resources, Information Technology and administrative functions within the organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing the financial performance of the company, as well as lead the team to overall success within each department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Lead the financial strategy, planning, and forecasting processes. Oversee budget preparation and the implementation of budgets, ensuring that financial resources are allocated according to organizational priorities.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Ensure the accuracy of financial reports and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Prepare financial statements, reports, and presentations for the Board of Directors, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Support Services Oversight: Oversee the departments that provide essential Support Services, such as IT, human resources, and administrative functions, ensuring these services align with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage financial risks. Implement risk management policies and procedures to protect the organization’s assets and financial health.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and Support Services teams. Foster a collaborative, efficient, and dynamic team environment that contributes to achieving the organization’s goals.
  • Operational Excellence: Evaluate and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output in the delivery of services.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including employees, board members, external partners, and financial institutions, to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Strategic Initiatives: Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies, and practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; a master’s degree or CPA designation is highly desirable.
  • At least ten years of overall professional experience; ideally six-plus years of broad financial and operations management experience
  • At least 5 years of management/supervisory experience
  • Proven experience as Director of Finance or similar role
  • In-depth knowledge of Finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and fiscal management software. Deltek software experience is a plus.
  • An analytical mind with a strategic ability

  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Good time-management skills
  • Experience in overseeing Support Services functions such as IT, HR, or administration is a plus.
  • Experience in a mid-sized organization is preferred, professional services background is a plus

Working Conditions

This role typically operates in an office environment but will require some travel to other JR Engineering offices within Colorado including Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Golden, as well as occasionally attending offsite meetings or conferences.

Regular full-time hours are expected, with additional hours as needed to meet deadlines or address financial emergencies.
