STARTING SALARY: Up to $82,000 Depending on experience

This position is responsible for working with leadership in planning and implementing a development and fundraising program for the short-term and long-term needs of Muskegon Community College and is directly involved in raising funds to support identified programs and initiatives from individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations.  As a representative of the foundation, this individual builds and maintains long-term relationships with key donors and potential donors, including the Foundation Board of Directors.  This includes, but is not limited to, internal and external communications, public information, promotion, community engagement, and fundraising.

 Qualifications: 

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
2. Three years’ leadership experience in development related work preferably in higher education.
3. Demonstrated experience with fund development and successful track record closing major gifts.
4. Must be able to professionally represent the foundation and college both internally and externally.
5. Must understand the importance of building long term relationships between the college and the community. 
6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
7. Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituents. Experience working with motivating, coaching, and managing volunteers a plus.
8. Highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the College
9. Advanced computer skills in MS Office and database utilization.
10. Must be able to work additional hours during peak times or as required.
11. Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects.
12. Maintain and grow the organizational culture of a high-level of personalized customer service to support our donors, students, and other departments/leadership.
13. Dedicated to the mission/vision of the organization.
14. Excellent planning, problem solving, and organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, and meet deadlines and conflicting demands. Ability to balance varying demands and handle pressure and conflicting demands calmly and with poise and professionalism.
15. Able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

 Essential Function:

1. May supervise and/or mentor department staff, in which case will select, motivate, counsel, coach, evaluate, develop, and discipline direct reports as appropriate with sound supportive leadership and supervisory skills.
2. Direct and monitor all foundation communication and promotional activities that affect the awareness and perceptions of department/organization. This includes but not limited to annual and quarterly reports, newsletters, fundraising appeals, social media, website, event promotions, press releases and other promotional and advertising materials.
3. Develop and oversee data-driven annual and long-term fundraising goals and strategic initiatives.
4. Participate in, support, and represent internal and external community relations and engagement activities to build positive relationships.
5. Personally manage and cultivate a portfolio of donors with strategic intention to achieve established metrics, annual, and strategic goals including major and annual gifts.
6. Conducts prospect research, identifying new donors and developing effective solicitation strategies as well as stewarding donors throughout the major giving process.
7. Coach other leadership as necessary to assist you in sourcing prospects and cultivating long term institutional relationships.
8. Collaborate with team in developing and monitoring recognition strategies and stewardship plans, including maintaining a record of naming opportunities and stewardship obligations to donors as outlined in gift documentation.
9. Timely and accurate recording of all donor interactions and communications in donor database including solicitation plans, timelines, and proposal tracking
10. At the direction of the CAO, oversee board communication including but not limited to meeting notices, agendas, and meeting minutes.
11. Coordinate work of volunteers and staff in developing strategies, identifying, and cultivating donors, developing case statements, preparing collateral materials and securing gifts to reach campaign goal(s).
12. Monitor and ensure compliance with gift acceptance and other Foundation policies and procedures.
13. Collaborate with others in the community to increase and maintain the foundation's visibility; attend community events that may not be related to the foundation directly to demonstrate the foundation's role within the community and to help ensure that others will attend the foundation's events.
14. Set a collaborative leadership example that will encourage cooperation and good working relationships with staff, within the board of directors, and in the community.
15. Participate in professional development programs relevant to foundation/development work.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
