Position Summary:

Job Summary
The Director ofCommunity Standards & Student Conduct will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Life and provide leadership for the University conduct system including coordinating all aspects of Student Conduct and developing the use of restorative practices as an alternate resolution process. In addition, the director is responsible for strategic planning for the office, policy development, implementation of the code of conduct, evaluation of the process, and overall office operations. This position is defined as an exempt position under FSLA regulations.
Specific Responsibilities
•Directly oversee and coordinate all aspects of Student Conduct and restorative practices as it relates to Student Conduct.
•Serve as a primary adjudicator for conduct conferences and case officer for university conduct board hearings for individual students and student organizations.
•Review all incoming incident reports and Campus Safety reports to determine potential code of conduct violations and assign the appropriate conduct resolution process and adjudicator.
•Direct the investigative process in collaboration with the Campus Safety investigator to gather direct and documentary evidence for conduct conferences and university conduct boards.
•Recruit, train and oversee faculty, staff and students serving on the University Conduct Board (UCB) and oversee all components of the UCB hearing process for individual students and student organizations.
•Lead ongoing and regular revisions of the student handbook, including policies and procedures related to conduct resolution processes, to assure alignment with functional area standards and best practices with a particular focus on inclusivity, equitable practices transparency and justice.
•Develop and revise educational sanctions and educational sanctioning guidelines to support adjudicators and enhance process transparency with a focus on equitable sanctioning for students.
•Conduct outreach and education efforts to students and organizations on the student handbook, the Student Conduct system, and related processes and procedures.
•Coordinate and lead conduct team meetings advancing education efforts and enhancing transparency for the conduct process with faculty and staff who are poised to amplify that learning with other constituents.
•Provide training for hearing officers, residence life staff, resident assistants and other groups of staff and students on conduct processes and reporting obligations.
•Coordinate and co-facilitate with appropriate campus partners, training for professional on-call staff members related to best practices in student support, crisis response, and conflict resolution, and incident documentation.
•Participate in a certification process to become a restorative practices facilitator and subsequent training to become a trainer to teach restorative practices facilitation to other community members.
•Create, implement, and assess a comprehensive restorative practices initiative to integrate into Student Conduct, within the broader Student Life division, and in collaboration with the Division of Access, Equity and Belonging.
•Maintain a consistent and up to date presence on the Susquehanna University website (for external constituents) as well as myNest (internal constituents).
•Co-supervise the administrative coordinator for Residence Life and Community Standards and any interns or student employees working with Community Standards.
•Collaborate with Director of Title IX Coordinator Compliance and the Bias Incident Coordinator in managing cases that may cross over between Title IX cases and Bias reports.
•Provide statistical reports to various areas of the university related to Student Conduct.
•Develop policies and procedures related to record keeping and reporting and communicate with faculty, staff and students on record keeping procedures.
•Maintain, with assistance from the administrative coordinator, the Student Conduct portion of the Maxient database.
•Ensure compliance with FERPA in relation to Student Conduct records.
•Serve as a member of the Student Life on call duty ration, providing crisis response consultation to the first level live on professionals on call.

Required Qualifications:

Education
•Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field required.
Experience
•A minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in Student Conduct and/or residence life.
•Experience serving as a primary adjudicator for Student Conduct is required.
Additional Requirements
•This is a full-time, 12-month position which requires occasional night and weekend work.
Physical Demand
Position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Position requires the ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machines. Working conditions are indoor.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
•Knowledge of student development theory and current issues and emerging trends in the Student Conduct functional area
•Knowledge of restorative practices in higher education with a particular understanding of its application to student accountability
•Knowledge of assessment including learning outcomes development and the use of data to evaluate and adjust programmatic functions or services.
•Skilled at written and verbal communication, including formal presentations to large and small groups of varying audiences (students, faculty, administration, family members, external partners, etc.).
•Demonstrated experience with and advocacy for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ student populations.
•Demonstrated commitment to growth in intercultural competence and implicit bias awareness.
•Demonstrated ability to critically review and challenge systemic processes through a social justice lens and in collaboration with culturally diverse colleagues.
•Ability to independently set priorities and work collaboratively across campus in support of co-curricular student learning and growth.
